Default Rogue River Salmon?

Can anybody tell me when the best time is to fish for King Salmon on the lower Rogue? Just bought a new NR Seahawk and I am anxious to get up there. My Dad and I used to go up many years ago but I haven't wanted to go since he passed away. I think I am ready to go back up but I dont remember if it was Aug or Sept. We used to do really well on the big Kings in the estuary. Any ideas? Thanks!

They will be there in fishable numbers in August, some years by mid July.

they are catching fish right now, there must have been 75 boats monday evening when we came in, quite a few guides already on it, for what it's worth. i just got back from a 10 day work stretch there and there were a number of fisherman everyday.

We were down there this past weekend and saw maybe 20-25 boats fishing each day in the lower bay. We talked to 3 different guides who all indicated it was still slow, but the numbers were improving.

Good luck.

I fished there Tue. We went out early to the reef and caught 3 limits of rockfish then came back in and caught a 28# king right off the bat-then nothing the rest of the day-quit at 2:30pm. The wind normally comes up in the p.m. A big high tide around late morn. or noon is best. The fish are there but the water is too warm. Rain will help.

Thanks to all. I will check out my tide book for a good time in August.

I used to live in Grants Pass and fished this every year..... it varies each year like all fisheries, but generally speaking we always had the bumper boat, catch lots of fish last two weeks of august through the first couple weeks of Sept. There is a great place to stay right there with a boat ramp, and tackle shop.. it used to be called Jot's Landing... call them, and they will give you the best report on the fishing, and it still might not be to late to reserve a room.

Good Luck and have fun!!!

We used to run a mooching rig, use a bait threader up through a whole hearing the front hook is a slider and the rea hook is on a loop, so it can be removed for threading.... rear hook was a treble, back then.... check the legality....
