Playa del Carmen, Mexico - Fishing in May
I'm lucky enough to have some good friends getting married this May and they've decided to do it in Playa del Carmen, Mexico which is 45 minutes south of Cancun. And after some arm twisting i've decided to go.
Its suppose to be an old fishing village - And from what i've gathered May is a great time for several species. Has anyone fished out of Playa del Carmen? if so I welcome some advice and recomendations.

Go another 30 miles south and go to the Akumal Dive Center. The tel number is 987-59025. Smaller boats for 4 people costs $200 a day. May is good month for Marlin. They launch right out thru the surf. Great fishing.

Re: Playa del Carmen, Mexico - Fishing in May
Thanks No Wishing - now when you say smaller boats - is that still guided or are you just renting the boat and going it alone? I'll have friends that don't know much about nothin - and i think guided is the way we'll want to go.... That and i'd have no idea what the heck i was doing either.
Its also possible the girls will want to go - in which case we'll probably want to get more of the pampered type trip (i.e. drinks and food) on a bit larger boat- so info on both would be great.

20 foot boat and they have drinks and food. Have a house in Akumal and go fishing with these guys all the time. Lots of barracuda in the area also.

Pack you Fly rod and head to Assension Bay Just ouside of Talum (biosphere),Great Time for Permit,Bones, and chance at Tarpin. Rough Road but flats are worth it. Check out Bocca Playa they have guides. Or you can pass boca Playa and drive till you reach a bridge, you will see the northern entrance to the biosphere, also tarpin and snook cruse in and out with the tide.

Make sure you go to a reputable guide and ask what their cancellation policies are as weather rolls in quickly and frequently making the sea to rough.
Do:
Go to the island of Cozumel and go snorkeling/diving as it is one of the 10 best places IN THE WORLD -- no kidding. Best and cheapest place to go is Dzul Ha
Go (on the mainland) to Tulum, it is wonderful
If you can afford it, stay at one of the Iberostars, they are all inclusive and WAY worth the price.
Here's a link to a quick web page I did of our vacation pic's:
Playa Del Carmen, Cozumel & Tulum

Hey boat monkey, those are pretty cool pics! Was that you that hurt your finger? What happened? I'm planning an "early retirement" in mexico, all I have to do is convince Mrs KooK that it's a good idea!
