I used to think it mattered until I went to that seminar last week. In the DVD's these guys wear all kind of patterns, They don't wear face paint or face camo and they never use scent blockers But they always fill their tags with Big Bulls. Several of the scenes in this DVD shows these guys staring Big Bulls face to face at Ten yards and the Bulls just stand there,
Until they get hit with an arrow.
One of the questions I asked is why don't you cover your faces or use scent ?
A waste of money....

Re: What are your favorite camo patterns for
I have used ASAT and think that it works fine. Personally I don't like the idea of wearing something mostly tan colored as I'd be more likely to be mitaken for a game animal and get shot. My favorite is predator, but I also like the idea of wearing one kind of camo pants and another kind of camo shirt as I feel that it breaks up our outline a little better.

Re: What are your favorite camo patterns for
Predator Green for either Eastern or Western Oregon. You basically disappear. Always face paint, paint on the hands and a camo bandana.
Here's a "study" ( if you can call it that) that I thought was kinda interesting. http://www.whitetail.com/camo1.html
IMO- Most of the camo you'll find on the shelf at your local sporting goods store is designed to SELL, not kill bulls (I'm not saying that it doesn't, hasn't and won't in the future).

Re: What are your favorite camo patterns for
I bought some light weight rain gear called " Game Hide" in Mossy Oak Obsession that I really like for the coast range last year. When I sit down in the brush it just merges with everything around me. I got some winter camo top and bottoms in from Cabellas about 10 years that I use in tree stands in a pattern called "Timber Ghost" that is great for fir treesbut too hot to use in the early season.

Re: What are your favorite camo patterns for
I have always used MO Break UP. Yeah I know it's a bit dark for E.oregon but after hunting for a long time I don't believe the camo pattern is as important as is keeping the wind in your face and limiting how much movement you produce when walking. I don't care what pattern that you choose if you make any errratic movement in front of a deer or elk they are going to detect you. Some will argue that you don't even need camo however I think something, anything is better then nothing at all. I do think cover scents are more important as it's easier to control how much movement that you produce then it is to control the swirling wind.

Re: What are your favorite camo patterns for
I agree camo won't work if you hands and face are not covered. Watch some body with any camo walk though the bush the first thing you see is their hands moving or their face... Not saying you can't hunt with out them covered but it seems important to me when you the first thing I can see is hands moving..

I like Predator and the new MothWing Camo. Had good luck with alot of the Sage camos out there as well. I have not worn camo face paint in 15 years and have killed alot of elk and deer since then.
Being hidden is more than just having the right clothing on. Using terrain, staying in the shadows or reliefs, moving when you can etc.. have more to do with success then what camo you're wearing IMHO
I see people running around with white dipped arrows ( I used to be one of them) which stick out (and move more) than someones hand and face that are actually trying to be ghosting through the woods. I also see people shooting black vanes when they are hunting which seems to me completely different than it should be. I WANT to be able to see where my arrow went and where it ended up!
Most natural predators do not have intricate camo patterns yet they seem to be pretty efficient at staying alive. I will admit that they dont have shiny faces and hands but their woodcraft and hunting skills would put even the most camoed human hunters to shame.

Re: What are your favorite camo patterns for
I went into an Archery shop in Eastern Oregon with the intent to buy Predator, I'm impressed with it's ability to breakup the human shape.
After talking with several hunters in the shop and watching a homemade video I left with a set of ASAT & later bought the 3D suit. Haven't seen anyone else wearing it but the folks I hunt with say they don't know what it is but they claim they just look right past me; the pattern doesn't catch their eye as anything unusual? The nice thing about the 3D is you can wear a lot or little under it and it's held up quit well in the Western Oregon woods chasing Elk.
I'm a believer in ASAT & just bought my son a 3D suit.

Re: What are your favorite camo patterns for
I just got some of the new Sitka Gear in their camo - I think its the Mothwing stuff. Anyway, not sure how it works but it looks cool!! Seems more suited to rocky terrain like in the Eagle Caps maybe

Re: What are your favorite camo patterns for
This post is funny. The only reason new camo patterns come out every year is so hunters will buy them. I guarantee the same stuff you bought 10 years ago will work just as good as some new pattern that came out last week.
Human vision is way different than animal vision. I saw a guy wearing blue jeans and a stetson shoot a monster bull with his bow on a TV show one time. He had the wind right and he kept his head down.
My personal favorite are shadow grass and max-4 for waterfowl, and break up or shadow branch for everything else.

Well said, Crayfin!
IMO- Your camo is important during those times when you "get caught" and haven't either had the foresight, or the time to utilize any of the available cover for concealment. That's why I'm 100% camo, all the time...ya just never know, so why risk it?

Re: What are your favorite camo patterns for
A good friend used to know an old timer that would wear blue jeans and one of those old western style shirts. His favorite one was chartruse and maroon colored. Maybe he liked seeing other peoples reactions. My friend said that the old guy would get his animals every year.

Re: What are your favorite camo patterns for
PREDATOR IS THE ONLY WAY TO GO, THAT IS IF YOU WANT TO BECOME INVISABLE. I stopped by sportsmans a few weeks back to gear up my first year hunter and was blown away by the lack of preditor camo, in years past you could at least get what ya needed, but now there aint squat. I was quite disapointed to say the least. so, where can I find a decent selection of all sizes and styles, I need to hook the boy up with the shizzle.
