Default Smallie tips?

I keep hearing about huge small mouth bass (OK, 4 pounds isn't huge.) in the Portland area. I'd love to yank a couple of these guys out of the water and holler, "Naass Feesh!" Of course, I want to do it with a fly.

Where should I try it? Among the stumps in the Channel? Backwaters near Sucker Creek?

What will work? Poppers? Streamers?

Hey Pete, you don't mention a boat, but if you want a chance at some decent (up to 7# ) try Hagg Lake out Forest Grove way. State record comes from there. Lots of 2# and higher. Even the dinks feel good on a light fly rod. Try streamers but to be honest, I love to catch them on poppers. That can bring the adrenaline into your system fast.
If you have a boat, then put in at Meldrum Bar and drift the east bank with a streamer. I have caught lots along there and you never know what else will hit (shad, *********, trout, crappie etc.) Try those and let me know your luck.

I don't have personal experience with this, but I've heard from a reliable source (ping pong anyone?) that the best smallie tip is to use shorter strokes.
