Default Cut Plug tinkering

Anybody put yarn on their cutplug herring? Like you would make a rag or perhaps tie it around the tail.

Cut plug tinkeling Marty?!? That's highly inappropriate for this BB! - RT

Edit: Ooops. Nevermind. I read the topic wrong. ..... ...

Marty, read the thread on what to do with herring - I think I've found something a little more effective than colored yarn for them. I posted about it (I call them 'flickers') with some other things, and it includes that chartreuse color that you and the feesh like. ...

However, I do like the idea of combining red yarn with plankton balls to entice strikes from fresh sockeye salmon. Gosh, they would be so tiny the fish might not see them though! Might work better than bare red hooks? Or can you get us a bunch of tiny krill shrimp?

Marty
A little trick we came up with years ago was to add a medium size flame red corkie on the leader above the Herring, this rig out fished ,an exact same copy without the red 4 to 1....day in and day out....Go figure......Os

Marty, A friend of my dads used to always put red yarn above his herring. He caught a lot of fish that way, I think a little added color for contrast or whatever can be very effective. Firedog

I had good sucess last year with a red bead in front of the herring for silvers. Hard to tell the difference when there are lots of fish. Its when it slows the color makes the bait. I am reluctant to put to much stuff in front or on the herring so I don't ruin the action of the bait.

If you are interested in effective colors for salmon all you have to do is ask a commercial troller. They catch there fish because they bite. Most don't use herring so color is a major factor.
