We caught 28 shad tonight at Oregon City. I contributed to the total. The number I contributed is not important

Hey Stew, nothing is important about shad fishing. ...

Except for kids, crabbers, oversize sturgeon fishers, and tackle/rod/boat related industries. Hmmm ... please excuse - I was wrong.

Didn't catch my first fish until 3pm, ended up with 33, just me. Locaton location location. Guess that pretty much sums it up.

Nice to see you boys landing some fish.

I thought last night was going to be a story on Hoochies thread about "ever have one of those days". Met Gizmo and BigStew for a night of shad fishing a little after 4, we get up to where I like to fish, and it is packed with people. Lots of frog water open to anchor in, but all my favorite spots were taken. Shad fishing is a location thing to the max. We try a couple anchor spots that were open and guess what, We run out gas again. The siphon bandits hit again. This is twice in about a month. (I'm still mad) I gotta find a lock for my fuel tank if the price of gas doesnt drop. That and check my fuel gage every trip, even if I filled it yesterday and didnt put the boat in the water.

I am not aware of any kids in the neighbor hood with a car , but I am about 1 block from a High School and we always have the "good" kids from school sitting on my curb smoking. Might be an adult just to be fair, but who ever it is will find out how a siphon hose feels sticking out of a rear oriface if I catch them. I doubt they will enjoy it to much when I light it on fire.

We manage to get the motor primed again with fumes and get to the dock, as I drive the boat, Gizmo is working the hand pump on the fuel line to keep up with the motor.

We load the boat and run to a fuel station, and then drop the boat back in the water so we can continue fishing. You can call this a wasted hour.

We ended up moving a couple more times before we got dialed into a spot. We never had prime water but ended up getting into a few fish. Hookset was putting the hurt on them. The way his net was flying I thought he was trying to get somebodies attention.

And as Stew said, size doesnt matter. Oh my mistake... it was the number of fish that doesnt matter. The number of times you were singing that motto, you might even believe it one of these days.

Stew: it was a pleasure meeting and fishing with you. I am glad that you had the opportunity to catch (2) fish last night. You are right that numbers don't count. (Roy, you think we should go back up tonight and get the 3 rods Stew through into the river?)

I was amazed that you have developed great proficiency in netting (26fish. The lightning speed at which you thrust the net into the water reminded me of the lightning sword strokes Zorro takes when defending himself.... (He however, usually hit his mark... )

Roy and I do thank you for showing us how to net fish...

All in all, we had a great time. Finding the right spot was a bummer for a while, but we got into them. The new okuma epix really worked well.

You are right to warn everyone not to believe Roy or me.

The Giz...

Giz, we could go get Stews poles if you want, But just before he tossed them he said, "&#@*& this &)%*@ pole #!@*/-# dont @)*)@*) catch no %()*@)% )@)%* fish"

I am not sure I want a Gloomis/Calcutta combo that cannot catch a fish.

Steve, I am glad somebody is sharp enough to know what Stews problem was last night (at least one of them )

When you dont bring your own tackle, you get to use what others let you. Hmmmmmmm.... If I kept going to somebodies tackle box and the stuff there didnt work, I might be looking at what they were using, and where it was kept in the boat. That, or maybe bring some of my own stuff next time.

A studious fisherman reads the posts on the targeted fish. Seems so many posts on shad fishing; bright small lures in chartruse and chrome. Dick Nites ect. Not so simple when targeting lock lipped nookies. Hit the Sandy and fed the ********* yesterday. Many nibbles but no chomping springers. You going to do any Columbia Steelhead fishing Roy?

Stew it sounds like those boys gave you the lures they never catch fish on . Yes Roy find a lock for that fuel tank! I fished the Sandy with Smiley last nite with the normal results. I should issue a chalenge to all of you guys to get me into some fish.LOL Talk about cold streaks, Roy's 40 days record without a catch is getting near.

BOE,

You've been dinged twice now by the siphon punks. You could lock up your tanks or put them in a garage, but this is doing nothing about the real problem. If these guys can't get to your gas, they go after someone else's. This solution only reduces the supply not the demand and judging from the War on Drugs, this won't work.

So here's what you do. Go out and buy a two gallon gas tank and fill it with the cheapest gas you can find. Add two cups of sugar and mix well. Now store this extra tank next to where you normally store your gas.

The next time these punks take your gas, they'll take your "bait" and now they are out of a car. The drawback is that you have to put up with it one more time just to get them to take the "bait". The upside is that this reduces the demand, while the supply take a small hit. These guys aren't going to be needing your gas after this!

WARNING: only try this once! If you try this a second time and the same punks come back looking for a little vengence they could very well siphon out your good gas and fill your tank with your "bait".

Good luck!

OFC
The boat will fit in the garage but then I would have no place to go play with the tools. I have thought about trapping them with everything from the sugared gas to a grizzly leg hold trap But I know these things just come back to bite you when they get mad at me for not allowing them to steal my stuff easily.

I think my problem is about to go away. I live close to Clackamas HS and it is about to become a Middle School when they get the new HS completed which is under construction. I dont have any kids in the neighborhood that drive, but every day we have kids cutting class and hanging out in front of our house smoking. I see then at lunch time sitting on my curb and looking at my boat in the driveway. If I was to guess, it is one of them. Schools is now out for the summer, and they are about to be across town at a new school.

I think I have figured out how to put a lock on the tank. When they cannot get to the gas, maybe they will take the extra trailer wheel bearings out of the glove box.

Maybe I will get lucky and they will siphon some diesel from the pickup and try running it there car, not knowing the difference in the dark.

BOE, this probably won't help your situation, but... I knew a guy who had gas siphoned out of his motor home from time to time. He was an older fellow who would spend the winters in Arizona in an RV park. There was rash of stealers, which was probably the same guy. The gas stealer(s)would siphon the fuel in the middle of the night when, everyone was sleeping. One day he decided he would change the gas cap to the waste water cap (which were right next to each other). They were both well marked and easy to read. One night he was awaken by a person caughing and gagging outside his motor home. Someone had siphoned the black waste water, so you can imagine how that first gulp tasted..... Problem solved.
