Default Family place in Reno???

So, I'm down here in Reno, working until September 15th. Flying home every other weekend. Actually working through this weekend (yuck). My wife and kids will be coming down August 16th-21st. We're trying to decide what to do; I'll be off for that time. We were thinking about staying at Circus Circus because of the kids; has anyone here done that? I don't want to shell out extra $$ for two rooms at CC if it's not really worth it.

We're definitely planning on driving up to Tahoe one day, look at the beauty; and the aftermath of all the fires. Also plan on driving around locally, maybe even in my hunting area just so the kids can say they went hunting with dad in Nevada.

Suggestions?

If your going to stay at a casino then CC is the place to be for kids. In fact that is where I stay with or without grandkids.

Tahoe is beautiful.

CC is certainly the place if you have kids.

Circus Circus is good for kids.

I would definitely stay at the Hilton...no wait...now its called the GSR Grand Sierra Resort. It has go karts, a massive swing(super awesome), tons of video games, laser tag and to boot they have hilton bay aqua range! Hilton bay aqua range is behind the hilton and basically its a large driving range where you hit balls into a manmade lake, there are 5 islands to aim at. Its tons of fun, and if you get a hole in one you win crazy prizes...

so if your kids are young take them to CC, but if they are 8-18 I would most definitely go to Gran Sierra resort.

cheers

I Agree, they also have a Bowling alley and lots of arcade stuff downstairs, This time of year they have outdoor concerts right by the Auqua driving range, I was there once hitting golf balls while Uncle Ted was rocking out in the parking lot , Also try and get the kids up to boomtown. lots of good kid stuff in the huge arcade with motion theatres, Reno is growing leaps and bounds so there is alot more to do there now than when i lived there.

Sparks now has a cool marina where you can fish, right next to it is a water park, it may be hot so this might be good.
Virginia City is a cool historic site to show the kids , you know the Comstock load and all.

Good luck and have fun.

Atlantis has a promotion going where you pay one night get the second free. 55.00/night during the period you'll be on vacation. Can't beat that. There are two pools with one indoors out of the heat. Will probably stay there next week.

I'll second the wild waves park in Sparks. Virginia City is a cool place to visit as well. If you are going to Lake Tahoe you might want to make the run to Squaw Valley and ride the gondola to the top. There is also a stern wheeler tour in Lake Tahoe that is interesting as well. Lots of stuff to do down there for the family. Good luck.

I'll toss in a vote for The Sands, about 3-4 blocks from Circus-Circus. We were there with our kids a few years ago and our little drake Cootlet became violently ill about 8 in the morning. Checkout was scheduled for 11, but our plane didn't leave until 7 in the evening.

I went to the desk and asked if there was any way I could rent the room for one more day and explained we needed someplace to say until we left for the plane. "Why Mr. Coot, don't you worry about it. You stay as long as you need to, even if it's a couple of days, and there won't be any charge at all. Now, let me write down the directions to the emergency care clinic and if you think you need an amublance, just buzz this desk."

When I got back to the room, TWO maids were just leaving, having delivered armloads of towels and a bucket of ice at the request of the desk.

After service like that, for this family the ONLY option in Reno is The Sands.
