Hunt unit info at your finger tips
With all the people asking about unit info from folks that have hunted the units recently I thought I would tell you that the ODFW will sell you a CD that contains all the names of successful applicants (for all the hunts in the regs)they sell for $25.00 each at ODFW in Salem.
P.S the ones I used are for sale in general ads here on Ifish

Re: Hunt unit info at your finger tips
Must be public information huh ?
Why not just post the info on the web for us all to use then.

If they did that, then how are they supposed to make any money from it?

Re: Hunt unit info at your finger tips
i don't recall signing anything that authorized them to release my information for public use...or ever being offered a chance to "opt out" of having my personal information made available.
i guess it's public records eh?

Re: Hunt unit info at your finger tips
Right, I was also wondering - I got a call at home yesterday from an outfitter trying to get me to hire him for my antelope hunt. He seemed to be going down a list of names just calling/mailing info. Now I know how it got it.

WHAT?!
This can't be EVERYONE who was successful, right? I mean, there's no way they can just give out your personal information to the public without your consent?

Anything that is owned by the public is available to the public , I work for the public and know how to find my personal info online, but wont share that with just anyone. As soon as you buy that license/tag you fall into that catagory. (Personal Id #'s, Social Security withheld)

This post has me bewildered to say the least. As a customer, I would hope to enjoy the anonymity offered by any other vendor. Most give you a choice at least to not be referred to other vendors.

Re: Hunt unit info at your finger tips
This is pretty old news guys - Over ten years ago I received a letter from an anti-hunter activist, urging me not to participate in an antlerless deer hunt in the Silver Lake unit. I had the same reaction to the fact that someone (especially an anti-hunter) could get all my personal information including the information about what tags I applied for and/or drew. I called ODFW and there was nothing to be done about it, except that they had to tell me who they sold the information to - Freedom of Information Act again....
The activist was a lady that owned a small deli in the town of Silver Lake and the only thing I could think of to do was to give her a piece of my mind. Consequently, I put my feelings down on paper, along with a brief biology lesson and sent the letter to both the lady and the local newspaper. It actually got published and exposed the activist for what she was to all the local folks. I was told that it had a negative impact on her business

Rick, I'm absolutely amazed that they didn't feel obligated to protect her identity. Did they actually give you information equal to that she was able to obtain about you? How VERY NICE you were able to give her some of her own . . . . . Don

Re: Hunt unit info at your finger tips
This is the type of stuff that makes my day! To the best of my knowledge there is no longer a small deli there. :-)
