Ever have one of these days?????
Father's Day! It was a joke!
Went to Pt. Defiance, turned left, put a 10# ball on the left-side 'rigger and NO POWER to it! (brand new Scotty that was working fine last week) Spent an hour messing with wiring. No luck. I'm thinking whassup with that?
Looked out at the 'rigger that was down and noticed the line straight out behind the boat (120') Pulled it in and got two lines with cut-plugs and 6-ounce sinkers still attached and NO Cannon ball! Now I'm thinking I maybe shoulda stayed home and did "honey-do's."
Started my 9.9 kicker, it ran for 30 seconds and quit. Couldn't get it going again to save my *** ! Ol' reliable failed me. How can this be?
Shoulda stayed in bed, I'm thinkin'. THEN, a damn seagull did what seagulls do to people who are havin' bad days---- sucker **** right on my shoulder and leg! Where's the shotgun????
Man, some days it's better to leave the boat on the trailer!
Wife says she's not EVER going back to Pt. Defiance.

Re: Ever have one of these days?????
I had a 1/2 as bad experience a few weeks ago fishing the lower Columbia. Wind was really bad so I ran back in Baker bay to fish - cought a few shakers and then the boat wouldn't sit still in the wind. Put out the 45 lb. pyramid stern anchor - wrapped a nice keeper fish around it and lost it, then forgot to pull in the stern anchor when I took off - it was probably waterskiing behind me for about 100' until the rope broke - I just heard a huge snap and saw my stern anchor rope flying out over my bow! Ran back to another spot and missed the narrow channel by about 5 yards - dug the new "Traylor trench" with the 250 Yamaha and polished up the fin on the bottom of the motor (can't remember what that's called). Then a buddy in a gillnet boat came over to say hi and ran right into the side of my new NR. Lucky for me I had Aluminum and he had fiberglass - I won that one but it was quite a jolt. Nearly got stuck pulling a guy off a sand bar on the way back into Chinook and then when I pulled my boat into my slip at low water (1.3 minus tide) I realized there was only 12 inches of water in my slip and got the motor stuck in the mud again. On the way out of the campground later that afternoon backed my 2001 Ford Supercrew into a tree and mangled the electrical plug for the boat trailer. Those bad days just happen! We just laughed at the end of the day, had a few beers and tried to forget about it - which obviously I haven't...Made up for it this last weekend with 3 days of very quick limits and a 50 lb. 57 incher. Maybe you'll turn your luck around like I did your next trip to Pt. Defiance!

Pt Defiance has to wait. I'm getting everything ready for some serious Sekiu fish-killin'. Starting next month.

Re: Ever have one of these days?????
hoochie - I suggest you fishing with Jeffhead from the board. He's a top-notch fishing partner and he is the Sound's gift to the BB's. We had the kicker motor crap out on us when he took my bro and I out on the Columbia, but he said he's had pretty much everything happen to him.....but he came prepared. Had us back out in 5 minutes.
Ya know if that seagull has a bowel problem, you could toss him some alka-seltzer to clear that right up.

I doubt that the gull's gonna take anything else from a human. He's a little shy after I fed him that extra Hot Mama pickled sausage I picked up from the 7-11.

Don't even get me started.
Having me start typing up my experiences related to this topic would be like a young couple taking up gardening. Think about it next time you see grandpa or grandma out there gardening. You start one day and you can just never finish .
Pilar.... Can you think of anything to add here? some dough ball with a back pack come to mind.....
I'm not starting anything here....

Re: Ever have one of these days?????
Understand this didn't happen to my boat but, last year I went springer fishing in the Willamette river. We were all set rods, food, plug in and tie down strap in the truck. I was walking past the boat up to the dock and noticed in the street light that the safety chain by the winch was unhooked. I was even going to ask Rocky (not the guide) if I should unhook it so I thought, "oh someone already did it". Rocky ownes a 19' White Water sled on a nice roller tailer. I don't know the maker. So, the system goes like this. I walk down to the water and wait to unhook, one guy backs down while Rocky is in the boat to power off the winch. So as Lee is backing down the boat he taps the breaks about 30' from the water and I hear a snap and the trailer rollers squeek as the boat is launched about 20' short. I will always have the picture in my mind of that boat moving for the first couple of feet with Rocky standing in it.
Well, we reloaded the boat and took off the broken kicker and had an uneventful day fishing after that. Boy those pump cages are tough on those White Waters. The winch strap on Rocky's winch broke at the hook. Anyway, don't unhook the safety chain until you are in the water if you have a roller trailer. It turned out that Lee's son didn't hook up the safety chain on the last trip.

Re: Ever have one of these days?????
Man hooch tough day,
Here is what goes with me out to the salt pond:
Tool kit
2 extra sets of plugs, 1 for the main, 1 for the kicker.
2 extra downrigger balls
1 kit with canon wire end connectors for the downrigger balls
1 extra spool of downrigger wire
Extra release clips
More than enough flashers
All hooches tied up and ready with back ups of all my favorite patterns
As far as the seagull, can't help ya there!!!LOL My Dad and I were out there on Friday. One shaker and one flounder. Did see one fish caught, a 15 - 20 lb beauty at Pt. Dalco by a guy moochin' (quiet boater, I can hear ya gigglin' in the background!!!). Good reports for this early in the season, usually June is not that great a month. Bodes for a good season. From about the 2nd week of July on it should be real good!!!
Good luck and tight lines, Jeff
