Default What's going on?

Seems to be a lot of editing, banning and deleting going on lately here on ifsih. What's up with that? Kind of a cultural revolution going here it seems.

George...if you haven't read the "Ifish Discussion Board Agreement" above where you're reading this..I suggest you do. If you have...the editing, deleting, and banning are the results of this agreeement being violated in one degree or another.

But why so much lately? Hasn't there been an unusually high amount of this in the past few days? Why not let the rest of us in on what's changed. Just wondering I like this board a lot but I hope fragile egos don't ruin it.

Please George. Go back and reread your book. You saw all of this coming.

A lot of banning and editing is just what this board needed. Quite frankly speaking i enjoyed the old board to a certain degree but the people who got down right nasty with other members was getting out of hand. If the board was just for men then i would say have it, and anything goes but it is not and the way it is now my grandson can even read the posts. I do miss some of people who used to post but i dont miss the nasty stuff. Good job Jen.

I agree Cagey but some of the editing and banning were for little things like disagreeing with the ifish administrator. If it's a dictatorship then so be it but when something is a slight bit critical of whose running things and then gets booted I find that a little too much. The dirty language and name calling should be deleted but simply questioning the way this bb is run is a little thinned skinned. Just my opinion so if this disappears you'll know that what I'm saying is not very far off the mark.

George has a legitimate question and can be answered very simply. The threads and post that have been deleted lately are from violating the "IFish Discussion Board Agreement", just like FishinMission already stated.

The recent threads deleted followed a few inappropriate themes, profanity, harrassment, adult mature themes and advertising. What you referred to as disagreements between members and the IFish Administrator is inaccurate. The Administrator was trying to create awareness on a adult theme thread. Nothing personal, except the thread in question was inapropriate on IFish.

With many people reading this discussion board, it's hard to please everyone. We try to be consistent and always follow the board guidlines. Before a post is deleted or edited, often but not always, we send a email with the reasons why. Also, a number of Ifish members are very involved and will send emails to moderators, alerting us to problems or issues that need attention.

The moderator job can be consuming and the pay is poor (strictly volunteer, no pay) and we rely on the Ifish community for assitance in keeping this site enjoyable to all members and not just a few. Following is a paragraph that I thought was appropriate for this thread.

The moderators' primary goal is to keep the spirit of the board a tightly knit community of folks with a common interest in friendly, if sometimes barbed, banter about fishing. This can be a great resource to learn how, where and when to fish. It can lead to new friendships. But it requires that everyone show consideration to fellow subscribers.

The above statement copied from the IFish board agreement really sums up what the Moderators and Administrator are trying to do with the help of everyone here.

Ok, maybe this wasn't so simple. Talking fishing is and that's why I'm here. Please email myself or any other moderators if you have further questions George. I really like to dwell on the postive and not relive the unfortunate past. Lots of good information in the past week and lots of people fishing.

Tight lines,

George asks a good question and maybe I can offer a little insight. During the past few weeks it seemed like there was a lot of tension and such on the board. The moderators and administrator reacted to some negative posts and maybe over-reacted a bit as well. That's easy to do as a ex-moderator I over reacted at times myself. So hang in there and let's all concentrate on how to get Bigstew into more and bigger fish! That's about a noble endevour as I can think of.

Since I have been critical of ifish in past posts this Geo Orwell and Antifish might be mistaken to be me, as one friend mentioned to me. I'm neither of them! I have gone on to other subjects (as per posted in the Roll Call thread). Mods are welcome to inspect my ISP's for verification. Thanks. - RT

Actually, George has asked a very legitimate question, and no, you can't say it violated the user agreement when the

"Rules and Regulations" post was deleted. I made a post asking what happened, and I never saw an answer for that one. I know no profanity was used, harassment, threat, etc.

So yeah George, if your opinion clashes around here, and you ain't down with "that" group, the post will get yanked. Hang around George, you'll get used to it after a while.

Funny thing also, I never received an email explaining why that thread was deleted either if the person wanted to keep it off the board.

Mike, your email is blocked. Often we use email to notify and explain reasons behind moderating this board. By closing your access you limit your understanding and involvement. It's your choice and looks like you made one.

A little faith can go a long way. Often choices to delete and edit are done through information not made public. In some situations, it's better to just move on from a subject then to drag it out. Trust me on this one. You have to believe instead of doubting.

So yes, I try to be positive and support IFish. Remember, I'm doing this for fun and helping Jennie. I'm just part of the larger picture with everyone here, not just "that" group. And then I read "Hey Yall's" post to this thread. You could try and be more supportive instead of the opposite. No one likes to "yank" threads.

Hey, let's get back to fishing.

Thanks Hook for the info. However I think the latest edit/delete fest that has gone on the last few weeks is just some one higher up needing their ego stroked! but hey it's their board right? Anyway this is the last I will post on this subject.

Mike's email address is in his sig line. He probably didn't remember until now that he blocked emails in his options, but it's a fair assumption that since he has his addie listed so prominantly that it's probably okay to email him.

Gregg, thanks for the reply, but like Fobbman said, "...it's a fair assumption that since he has his addie listed so prominantly that it's probably okay to email him."

The email account that I blocked is not accessible to me anymore. That is why I list my email in my signature.

I only try to support things if I feel the end justifies the means. I've heard the going-ons and in my opinion, it does not justify anything. Therefore, I will not support it. Doesn't mean I do not support ifish.

As a matter of fact, I've shown up for all the floatillas, the mini-floatilla, Windstock, and all the emails I get about the Cowlitz that I try to answer, and I fish with a good number of the people here off of the board. Safe to say that I support ifish, doesn't mean I agree with everything about it, and no, I will not be assimilated into one of the sheep. Just seems George has been right on the money (which, by the way, is not me).
