Default Where exactly is the estuary?

I guess I am lost herebut I keep reading fishing reports that say all the keeper Sturgeon are in the estuary. Where is this? Does anyone know where a map is online or can tell me where the Estuary is for sure. Is it near Desdamona Flats or where. Thanks to all in advance.

Estuary is defined as the arm of the sea at the mouth of a river. In fishermen's terms it is more properly described as the brackish portion of tidewater, that part of the river that is heavily influenced by tides and salt water comes in with the incoming tide and mixes with the fresh water. At Astoria it is anybody's guess as to what constitutes the estuary. Probably anywhere from the islands above Tongue Pt. downstream to the jetties.

The estuary is the lower portion of rivers influenced by salt water. On the Columbia this would mean waters near the town of Astoria and downriver. I know salt water travels at least to Astoria since I've caught crabs on hook and line just below the Megler bridge. Anyway, it's the lower portion of the Columbia river.

An estuary is a general term used to describe the areas where fresh and salt water mix together. On the Columbia most people usually include all areas from tongue point west to the bar including Youngs Bay, when talking about the estuary. Unfortunatly this is one big area and probally won't help much in trying to zone in on somebodies "hot spot". You'll need to dig a little deeper.

Yeah, I'm one slow typer. There are zero posts when I started and next think I know half of Ifish beat me to the buzzer. I hope I never get stuck playing Jeopardy with you two.

And there's no disagreement on the answers. We should all go sturgeon fishing on the same day. We would probably end up in a hog line somewhere near Astoria.

Naw naw naw...

It's over there that way... In the water...

Sorry, couldn't resist. I was hoping for a clearer answer myself. I guess if ya drew a line on the map the river would just wash it away anyhow .

Sorry, I need a fishing trip....
