I have always wanted to take my familty there...how much does it cost to view the lake? Can you make it down to the water?

I love that place. It is beautiful there. Side trip to the Oregon Caves for a longer adventure.

Re: good day at crater lake today
I am no emotional person, but I went there last summer, and it was litterally the only time I have had my breath taken away by the mightyness of nature!
It truly takes your breath away when you stand on the rim, and gaze at the vastness of the lake.
Everyone should visit that place in their lifetime.

Re: good day at crater lake today
Thanks for reminding me Baltz. We have to go. My wife has never seen it and I haven't seen it since I was 11. Don't ask how long ago that was!
A treasure in our back yard!

Re: good day at crater lake today
We were up there yesterday as well. I can't repeat what I said when we came over the edge of the hill and seen it for the first time.
Made for a long drive home last night though. Left there about 4:30 and got home at about 12:30.

Very cool place. The wife and I want to spend a night at the lodge on a clear, full moon night.

I need to get back their some day, its been too long. I have spent many nights sleeping on the lake, talk about a billion stars, the hike to the boats and back out is not bad, I have made it down to the water in about 4 minutes(over the side) and back up in 6(trail), but 10 minutes was a normal walk out, wish I could get in that kind of shape again. Take your fishing gear if you walk down their are some nice trout in the lake

Re: good day at crater lake today
we scuba dive in Crater Lake once a year. Awesome dive. There are some large trout and crawdads in there too. The hike out sucks. It's just about a mile, and almost 1000' elevation change from the parking lot to the edge of the water.
