Default Deschutes trout fishing

I haven't heard anything about how the redside fishing is on the Deschutes River. Can someone give a report on fishing conditions over there? Thank you. Stump

I personally hav'nt been over there for a while but I've heard that the big bugs are all over as well as the crowds. The crowds can only be expected though after all it is the D.

As of last Friday night, there were still quite a few stones in the bushes along the bank. However, with the cooler temperatures we've been getting, they haven't been coming off in any numbers. As such, the redsides are mostly looking at the smaller black caddis that is starting to come off right before dark, and they aren't looking at these very hard either. Give it a few weeks and some warmer weather and the fishing, while not as good as the peak of the salmonfly hatch, will get consistent again. Go now and take your chances, although, with the Deschutes, regardless of how the fishing is, I always seem to have a good time.

That sounds about right, I was over there 2 weeks ago & was probably about 2 or 3 days early. Ditto on the little black caddis, it's about a #16 - -

Really, though, it only takes about ONE of those fish to keep me coming back ... and regardless of the fish, watch the colors on the canyon walls change throughout the day. Hear the music of the river, the trees, the birds, the rattlesnakes (Hey Y'all watch this!).

The water level is good, the fish are there.

The Deschutes is only a half-step from Heaven - - - go get 'em!
