Default Bait and Rigging for Bluegill and Crappie?

Hello, just another new guy with some new guy questions. I picked up some light tackle for my kids to do some fishing when they come from San Diego. I'm new to the Florence area but I've found a number of neat little lakes. Most of my background is deep sea fishing and I don't know much about rigging or bait for Panfish. Anyone have some advise?

I took my son out on Hagg Lake and we used a bobber and a worm with about 2 feet of leader. Nailed Blue Gills all day. Very fun.

Oh, by the way, welcome to Ifish. This is a great site for learning lots of cool stuff from people who have actually caught fish. They have taught me SOOOOO much.

What size hooks for the worms, and thanks everyone for the tips. As far as fish stories, I'm sure one of us will get wet. Just a prediction though. My kids are comming on the 16th but I'll do a trial and recon before then at Wohink and sutten. Thanks again, Shelby.

I use a size 12 single hook with a single small split shot about 18 inches up the line; helps my grandson get the "feel" for those panfish bites. We are using ultralite rods and spinning reels. Just using enough worm to cover the hook. Good luck and have fun!

I would also add that small 1/64 oz feather type crappie jigs(or smaller) with nibbles or small pieces of worm meat work good. Try to use as small of a bobber as you can so they hold on longer for the kids.
Welcome aboard and good luck. Take pics.
