Default Trolling motor setup with sportjet

To all of you sportjet owners-
Can you please explain to me how you set up your trolling motor with your sportjet. In other words, do you sit on the motor cover or gunnel? What works best for those long days of trolling?

Thanks in advance,

I have a seat cushion I sit on with straps to hold it in place on the gunnel so I can watch my friends sitting dry and comfortable under the canopy while I catch pneumonia so they can have a good time. Yes, there must be a better way ...

I sit next to my friends staying very warm and dry under the top drinking coffee by the heater and let the Naughtamatic sit out in the rain!

I've got my kicker mounted on the drivers side. I have a seat I can sit on or lean on the motor box. Unless your lucky enough to have an TR1 autopilot, it's out in the rain for us all.

That's why I like anchor fishing.

A trolling motor mini well is located on the starboard side. I sit on the motor cover seat, and I am in the process of teaching my self to steer and throttle with my right hand. Actually starting to catch on, after a few days of trolling. Hard to break 25 years of left hand steering reflexes.

* Very Excited and Surprised to receive a gift from Mercury Marine today. They sent me a Garmin GPS unit. Just saying thanks for buying their 4 stroke trolling motor. How COOL!!! Thankyou Mercury.

Just dont tell Mercury about you taking all of the stickers off the motor they might come back and take the gps back j/k And dont worry you have the nice warm sink and crackers with cheese to keep you company in the back

Kicker is mounted on a bracket that is attached to the port side of the swim platform. I sit on the engine cover. My back gets sore if I'm out trolling all day. Been toying with the idea of putting a seat with a back on top of the motor cover. Have seen a couple of other boats with this and it looks cozy. Another, less costly solution may be a lawn chair and an articulated extenstion handle. May try that first and save my money so I can buy more fuel!

Really glad to have opted for the Enhanced Trolling System North River offers. Puts the kicker on the transom not the swim deck. I usually sit on the motor cover. Can see the tray mounted depth finder from there. I may mount another seat with some back support on the motor cover later. Saw a good example of how this can be done at Bently's in Milwaukee. One of the guys there keep his boat at the shop as sort of a demo boat. Got another good idea from it, he has rocket launcher style rod holders mounted to the front of the motor cover. Might be good for those times when you won't mess with putting rods in the tray holders.

I have an OMC trolling motor bracket mounted on the port side, sit on a cushion on the box for the oil resevoir or on the gunnel to face the opposite direction. Biggest problem I see with the whole set up is I am in the rain while those with me are under cover with the heat. (LOL) Time to start training on back-trolling.

Good luck
