Question Using Diver on Canadian Set-up ?

Not sure what to call it, other than a single action, one-to-one ratio reel but it's like they use on long mooching rods up in canada, like a big fly reel ... picked one up this year and I was thinking of using it on a pretty nible 10' rod for coho but I don't have downriggers hooked up yet and wondering if anyone ever used this with small delta divers, how it did ... figured for coho, not going out too far or too deep and would be challenging way to fish.

My dad uses one on our boat and loves it. He fishes all salmon at all depths with it. I think its called an Alvin or Albin or something like that . He bought it up in BC one year we went to fish up there, when salmon was closed down here and he never looked back.

I learned to use the BC setup many years ago and still do. I have an ABU Garcia Diplomat 420 single action reel with the best center reel drag ever made, I have landed a 54 lb chinook and many albacore with it I have it mounted on a 9' rod for 50 wt line but with a flexible tip and use 30 lb line on it. The reel capacity is about 950' of line which I needed on the 54 lb fish. I use ait with or without a down rigger.

I learned to love single action reels in canada. I have used them with both divers and with lead. My favorite reel is still the Islander MR2and my sweet wife bought me on last christmas. Built a 10'6" glass rod just for it and am really itchin to use it.

I have always called them knuckle-busters and have only fished them on downriggers.

They are my favorite downrigger setups.

I'll let you know in a week or so. I'm heading up Saturday and plan on losing some knuckle skin along the way.
