As I had to get up at 5am this morning I was witness to the fact that the sun is up at that time. Given that it will probably take close to two hours to get from Portland to MP 7 (I'm guessing here, I've never been) that means that I should be on the road by *gasp* 3am.

I would love to meet up with someone before hitting the river, preferrably someone who knows the area. I also have one of those little propane grills that can grill a few wieners or 3 to 4 burgers that I can bring along.

I will try to make it Fly/Yall. I've got a dang bad summer cold, but should be alright by Saturday. Gee, the BBQ planning could swing 5 pounds of meat supplies on whether I show up to eat or not.

Heres to Superfly for putting this together. It's a perfect example of what a motivated group of sportsmen are capable of. My daughters graduation is this Saturday so I will be unable to attend but I committ myself to picking up garbage whenever I am out fishing.

Rick, bring your pole. The deep pools of the Wind will have springers in them in good numbers all thru June; and into July if it's open. With all the bait and snagfestivities, I will only bring a pink worm or two to floatfish before the garbage pickup commenses (the springers likely haven't seen many of those amongst the ripping corkies and clusters ).

Okay, so what time you all want to meet at MP7? I'll either be in a red Escort or a red Chevy S10, depending on what is available.

Lets meet at M.P. 7 parking lot at 6 o am, that way it is light then and if you have not been there before it will be easier to find. Then we can break up into groups and spread out amongst the different locations where we can pick up trash. I have to locations that do not require a hike so anyone who cannot make the hike there is hope for you. I figure we can fish for several hours, then pick up trash and then we can have a barbeque in the early afternoon at the panther creek campground and call it a day. Hopefully we can scratch up a fish or two for the que!!

Way to go 'Fly buddy!!! Good payback to the fishery. I'll call you Friday night, and see ya at 6 am Saturday at MP7 (across the bridge and up from Carson?). I will bring you those 2 'back stabilizers' you wanted. Hey, if I can't hook one with the worm will ya let me play one you hook on eggs? Yes? No? ... [No Steve] ... Oh man, OK - how about 3 stablizers, and I donate the feesh to the Q? [OK, fine Steve. You're a springer cracker, so I will hook a dam fish for ya]. Oh thanks Joe! And you won't be sorry, I will land that thing and filet it out and throw a slab on the Q. Who's bringing a bigger mobile BBQ? Johnny's Seafood Seasoning? Butter? Paper plates? Plastic forks? Napkins? Prepackaged garlic bread from the store? Weiners and buns (in case of no fish)? Beer?!? Heavy duty garbage sacks? Extra gloves? ... Maybe post below what you can bring. ...

I will bring Johnny's Seafood Seasoning. I think if THE Kiiiiiiiiiiiiiiid brings some buns, Yall can bring some weiners?(oh wait, that'll be up at The Sauk event). Joe, bring your long fish filet knife. If we get a nice springer you can put on quite a filet show, I heard. And if we run out of room in the park garbage cans after the BBQ, we can just throw the rest of our trash back into the canyon along the river again. jk jk jk

For the benefit of those of us who have not been to "M.P.7", how about some simple directions.

Coming from either direction.....Turn north off of Hwy 14 onto the Wind River Rd.. There is a sign there that says "Carson". Continue up this road, thru Carson, over the High bridge until MP7. Actually, I believe the left turn into the parking lot is just before the actual milepost sign I don't normally fish there anymore. Either way, you can't miss the parking lot on the left.

I'll bring whatever is needed. I have a gas grill that I can bring, but it would be best if someone has a charcoal grill. It's kind of a pain in the ars to move mine around, and it burns fairly hot. I don't really like cooking fish on it.

Make sure that the vehicle you're driving has a WDFW Access sticker, if you're planning to park at the MP 7 parking lot. Tickets are handed out there on a regular basis.

You can get the access sticker at the time you get your license. If you're buying an annual license, the sticker is free. If you buy a one-day license, etc. they will want $10 more for the access sticker (good through 3-31-2002).

Also, rather than sticking it on your window, just tape it to the inside. I think I saw a new stipulation this year that said that this is now acceptable. Then you can transfer it between vehicles if needed.

OFC -

Don't worry about buying that sticker. I'll be hitching a ride down there with Superfly (we still on Joe?). I never mount the sticker to my windshield because we never know what vehicle we'll be taking fishing. I'll be happy to let you use mine to park with so you can save the $10.
