ok,

some of you may know this because i have told a few people my little "secret" that I use when dealing with alvins. When the current is really ripping or moving very slowly (dont ask me why it is either or in this way but it is) take your alvin and put the hook onto the head and your tie-on split ring onto the but. In essence your Alvin will be swimming through the water backwards now. I call it a "Calvin" because the "A" on the body becomes a "C". LOL. Anyway, there is my super secret tip for you and everyone else on the BB. Good Luck this fall with the upriver brights...by the way...stock up now...the places will be out come August 1 this year. Late...

Kid Cowlitz here.

Red and Black are the to go to colors for the kings, and summer-runs.

Silvers seem to be around a silver/blue combo. Metallic corkies are beefcake too for the drift-fishermen.

You fishing the Columbia or the Cowlitz?? For the Columbia...I like the "Silver" Alvins..but with a spot of Blue reflective tape on both sides of the lower half...about the size of a thumbprint. As for tuning them to the current...you can bend them at the bend that goes widthway's across the middle. More of a bend will give you better action in the slower water...less of a bend will slow down the action in the faster water. For me if it's rolling..too much action..I like it when it just "flops" from side to side. I think the most critical thing however...if your anchored, is the depth you're fishing, the "geography", and the length of your "dropper". Pay attention to those around you that are catching the fish...and see what they're using, lead line length etc. Very important.!! Clancy's...all those type of wobblers work great.

Save a buck.....buy a brad's wobbler, silver with the blue slash on bottom of each side....caught them till the blue was gone

Yes....dropper is VERY important and you won't find me in water any deeper than 25ft.

Coot22, reversing the lure is a new one on me. I'll have to try it just to say I've done it all.

Speaking of Alvins, I'll give up something I tried last year that seemed to work for me.

It seems as though everybody on the Columbia has their own combination, color, and pattern of prism tape they add to the wobbler. I do this myself too.

But, last year I wanted to try something different, so I had a fly tying friend of mine tie some hackle on some of the siwash hooks instead of coloring the wobbler itself. I don't know the name of all that fly tying material, but I had the best luck with a silver Alvin with some black, blue, and silver flashy stuff tied to the shank of the hook. Not a lot, but just enough to make it look a little different. It looks awesome in the water. We tried several different combinations, but this one worked the best, probably because of the closeness to the herring colors.

Past performance is no guarantee of future results.

A silver Clancy with blue dots worked best for me. Another color that did well for some guys I was next to was a white w/ charturse tip clancy. Too late in the season to find them last year but I'm gonna stock up early this year. Good Luck!

The one we ahd the best results with were the Half Brass and Half silver. Did modify the bends depending on the current also. Did Pretty good with silver and blue dots

I've got a couple of Alvins with single hooks on them. I would like to change to treble hooks. What size would you recommend or should I stick with a higher quality single hook?
Thanks for the help!

Twoshottom, I'd stick with siwash hooks.I use
a Gammi 5/0 or 6/0 on my alvins/mannies/clancy's,this seems to work fine for me and my fishin partners.I like the
half & half alvin chrome/brass.Good luck,
STRIKE ZONE
P.S. what ever you do don't get caught up in
buying all those different colors. The half chrome and half brass and the chrome with blue dot and chrome with green dots is all you really need. It's more of a dropper length
and leader length thing then any thing.
