Default All this talk about Dorena and Cottage Grove lake

I live in Eugene and work down in Cottage Grove. I had thought about taking my boat down one day and hitting one of the lakes after work. If anyone is interested in coming along let me know. I have yet to even lay eyes on either lake, so if you have some knowlege of the lake... that would be a huge plus. If not, hey, we can try and figure it out ourselves!

I'm not a pro on catching fish on either lake by any means, but I can tell you one thing for sure. Both lakes are play lakes, fast boats, water skiers, wake boarders, tubers and and jet skis. You will have lots of company AND wakes, if you fish either lake befor the sun sets this time of year. I don't know if Dorena has a no-wake zone at the top of the lake, but Cottage Grove does, you can get a bit of quiet up there. We've had some success on top water lures after the sun sets on CG.

Dorena has a 5 mph zone up the creek but the bouy is high and dry right now and not much water up there. Cottage Grove has a couple of bouys set up the upper end but only about 3-10 ft of water up there now. Lots of fish in about 20-25 ft of water right now.

How does early in the morning while all the jet skiers are nursing their hang overs work?

I think I am gonna try Dorena after work and dinner, hoepfully everyone will have had their fill of fun by then.......

Dorena fish will eat in the middle of the day, in the middle of boat traffic. I think they are used to being fished for at night and in the early am. Hagg is another one that kicks out some great fish amongst skiers and the wakeboard poser crowd. Dave

Hey RJ,
Sorry I didn't see your post sooner, I also live in Eugene and spent the majority of June figuring out Dorena and Cottage Grove. I would have loved to have someone to fish with. I caught alot of really nice stringers although I only fished the morning bite.

It's the summertime thing that I'm curious about. I have no idea how to get fish out of these lakes in July/Aug. Drop me a line if you want to team up and try to figure out "the summertime puzzle".
