Smile Newport Coho 6/30 Jun

Hope this may help some one. We were out on the water bout 6:30 this am went to were we heard the fish were northwest 120'. No fish started trolling west got first fish about 180' circled back around one more than nothing. Went out to 190' again two fish than nothing. Out to 200' got another fish, than double. We finished 6 for 9 not bad clip to nate ratio. We were 12-15 pulls, with divers and hoochies. We were finished before 10. Had a good on the water pic but camera batteries dead. This is not great pic but shows fish not huge but tasty. Good luck.

sounds like you did better than we did up here in garibaldi. fished all day at the same depth primarily and all we could catch was mackeral. fish checker said of the 60 something boat he had checked by 2 ish this afternoon that he had not yet counted even one coho. maybe they are on their way up....
thanks for the post

Another coho report from newport: We left the dock about 7:30, went out to 180 ft of water, it was warm, I think we hit 60 degrees or over. We were amongst the fleet, only saw one netted and we didn't get anything. Started tolling in closer trying to find cooler water. water didn't cool off much, but finally got a fish in about 145 ft a bit north of the lighthouse. Trolled around for a while, had one nice fish on, think it was a chinook 'cause it stayed deep. unfortunately it turned into a long-line release. About 1:30 started trolling south to the jetties, picked up more fish on the way in. Ended up with two each, most came on a small green spoon Jay was using. he had the hot rod for the day! Only one hit on the downrigger and it didn't stick. Spoon behind a flasher behind a diver, most were from 8 to 12 pulls. We got one on a white hoochie late in the day.

If I were going out tomorrow, I'd start fishing as soon as I cleared the jetties. We had better luck on the way back than we did north of the lighthouse.

It sure was beautiful this morning. I think lots of folks ran for tuna, they were close!

Thanks again Ron for a great day in the big pond. I had wanted to learn more about the ocean and have a chance at a few silvers and both goals were more than accomplished. Now, about those TUNA....

Thanks again for Ron M from me as well. I took the knowledge gained on Saturday and went out today in my boat to the same place and took six more coho out of the sea. Another great day.
