Default New to the area, here is my story.

Fishing story....I was at Davis Lake last summer with my brand new St. Croix 9" 6wt custom made for little old me rod. (moment of reflection here.....................-ok done now). I was using popper, bright green and yellow with white wings and a barbless hook as required by Davis Lake. I row down the channel which opens onto the lake on my Water Skeeter Pontoon boat. First cast into the water against the rocks I get a hit. You would have thought I was unvoluntarily donating a kidney with no anesthesia by my scream. I saw the Big Mouth Bass rise and rise again-with MY hook in her mouth. She immediately went straight under my seat and my rod was bent just about in half. I was sure the fish would break the rod, but it held. She pulled me around a while, but I got her in my hand and held her up. We guessed her weight to be about 5lbs to 5 and a half. I kissed her and let her go........and still have my pole. WWAAHHHOOO.
I have been flyfishing only a year, and that was my first bragging rights story. And I have very few. hehehehe. I love to fish for steelhead, and have taken 2 this year. One on the North Umpqua and one on the Necannie. I will fish anywhere and love to land trout and hope to broaden my horizons and fish for other local prizes. I am waiting for the one that will land me on the cover of Bass Pro's fall catalog, but that is my dream. hehehe. I know that this week I have fished 5 days and loved every time my line hits the water. I love this area for its versatility, back home the months of fishing were limited by the vast amounts of snow. Any advice or better stories would be appreciated. I am always appreciative of tips for good fishing and where to lay a line. Thanks, Elizabeth

So are you thinking about trying some bass fishing without using a flyrod?Even though that is a blast to catch bass and bluegill on a fly rod. Great story by the way. I have thought about trying bethany over by where you live because I work a the Intel site there.

they say that Bethany is good...but the traffic is very distracting to my wish of calmness. Good luck! I have caught most of my bass on my flyline, I AM willing to also spin for some. Sometimes I go with a kid who has no patience for fly fishing and he loves to roam the banks endlessly, over rocks and trees and people and all. So spin is easier in those times. Good Luck!!!

Hello and welcome!!!! I have been wanting to try fly fishing, but I am very afraid that if and when I do, I might leave all my casting and spinning gear behind.

Thanks for the great report. I do not know if you've caught a smallmouth bass yet, but if you have not, I hope you give them a try. Their fight is awesome and one of the best pound for pound in my opinion and this season is the first season that I have ever targetted them.
