Default Don't stay at Stanton campground

Went fishing last weekend at Galesville. I planned on fishing it 2 days but only fished one day.

There are no real close campgrounds to Galesville but Stanton which is right next to Seven Feather Casino. It is a first come first serve County campground.

I found a nice spot and found the caretaker and paid for 2 nights. I told him I was sleeping in the Van and that we were going to be fishing so there would be no vehicles in our campsite. He said OK.

Before we left for fishing I put firewood and 2 camp chairs out so other people would know the campsite was taken. When we got back from Galesville from fishing someone was in our spot with a motor home our camp chairs were gone as well as all of our firewood.

I asked the people in my spot where my chairs and firewood was at. They said they were not there when they picked the spot and the caretaker sold them the spot. They had a reciept he had indeed sold the spot.

I was hot but it was obvious they did not take our stuff. So I decided to go to the caretaker and get my money back for a night because I sure as heck was not going to stay where people rip you off. I waited for 2.5 hours for him to come back when the sign said he would be back shortly. I got frustrated and left when he was a no show.

I noticed a lot of people cruising the loop that did not belong there. They looked suspicious to say the least. Do not stay at this campground! They do not patrol at all. I never saw the caretaker leave his trailer the whole time I was there. Except when he dissapeared probably to the casino.

The fishing was not as good as I wanted but it was OK. I caught a lot of little smallies and a few decent but not overly big LMB.

Here is a couple fish I released.

A local angler said the fishing has been off for about a week.

This is the kind of behavior that seems to characterize more and more of the American landscape. What a bummer.
