Announced on ESPN they will take the 7' manchild with the 1st pick tomorrow (Greg Oden for those of you out of the loop)

Re: Looks like the blazers might have got something right!!!
May be another Sam Bowie. Big men come and go but the second coming of Michael Jorden should never be overlooked.
I like the big man. 7 footers that can play ball are never there in the second round. Sure hope he is as good as he seems. Nice pick.
Fact is no matter which one they pick they would be right. Both are worthy of being picked number 1. No miss situation to be in.

Re: Looks like the blazers might have got something right!!!
Oden is definitely the safe choice and I don't think there is any way anyone can compare him with Bowie. We do get a lot of smack about that draft year, but as I heard last night, why doesn't Houston get any for taking Hakeem before Jordan? Definitely a good question, but since Hakeem had a very good career it gets overlooked.
I'm on the fence with who to pick, but I think Oden fits with our system better than Durant would.

TAKE THE BIG MAN..........................
Then build a new team around him.
Playoffs in 2 years, championship in 5.
We just need Allen to pony up the bucks and the orginization to do the final house cleaning.
GO BLAZERS (the old rip city may be making a come back)

Re: Looks like the blazers might have got something right!!!
here's the story for those who care...
http://www.kgw.com/news-local/storie....218d8c41.html
ESPN is reporting the rumor...the Trailblazers are saying nothing. which is pretty standard. for those that watched the NFL draft...we all know what happens in the press and what happens on draft day is 2 completely different things. ie: Brady Quinn.

Haven't they already started that with Roy and Aldridge? We already have a very good young core, Oden just adds to that.

Re: Looks like the blazers might have got something right!!!
RBF,
I agree, the team has already started to grow in the right direction. Oden will just be the next piece of the puzzle. With the new young talent of Roy and Aldridge, a big agressive center like Oden is the answer. Time to drop the old bagage and begin a new franchise of young, aggressive, upstanding players that we all can be proud of.

Re: Looks like the blazers might have got something right!!!
Take the manchild. We have a good core: Aldridge, Jack/Surg, ROY, Manchild, Webster.
CHEERS
It seemed that toward the end of the year Webster was starting to come alive. I say give him time he will be there. And that is a good kid.
Randolph off the bench. As he gets older and matures I think he would put those gangsterisms behind him.
Can we just get rid of miles, please, now that is a cancer.

hummmmm.....buldging disk................ I'm now not so sure. Durant will come back to haunt us is my thinking. But hey, I still think Odem was the right choice overall.

Re: Looks like the blazers might have got something right!!!
I think Durant would be a good choice, but more likely to get injured. I think Oden will hold up better. I think we'll have a good contender type team next year. Playoff bound

Re: Looks like the blazers might have got something right!!!
I think Oden was a great pick.
More important, he seems to be just a good likable guy.....
I want to so much go out and see this team play but I will pass until Randolph & Miles are gone....
I think Pritchard & McMillan are doing a good job and I bet deep down inside, McMillan would love to see Randolph & Miles go bye bye.....
I predict the Blazers will make the playoffs in 2 years.... Championships are harder to predict and so many things can go wrong.....
As for Durant, he will do good especially since Seattle traded Ray Allen....

Re: Looks like the blazers might have got something right!!!
I heard earlier today (ESPN) that the team that gets the first draft pick, averages an increase of 12 wins from the previous year. Now I have to admit I don't know how many games the Trailblazers miised the playoffs by. But I bet that 12 games would have put them in or awfully close. And I don't think Greg Oden is your typical first pick. He's going to be a very special player in the NBA. Also, I personally am really impressed with the turnaround that they have done and this draft pick just helps solidify that turnaround. (IMO)

Re: Looks like the blazers might have got something right!!!
Randolph is gone ......
Just got traded to the Knicks.....
This is truly a great day for this franchise.....
I am proud to jump back on the wagon because Miles is a huge non-factor from what I hear and is surely out the door next.....
This new management team the Blazers have is doing an awesome job....
I will go back out this year and root for them very hard.....

I guess I should have waited for "The Chub" to post. With the addition of Steve Francis, I have a hard time imagining the Trailblazers not being a force to reckon with next year. Maybe a bold thought, but take a look at the team. Hard not to get excited.

I'll be surprised if we see a Blazer jersey with the name Francis on it.

Francis is NOT the same player he was in Houston. Once they traded him to Orlando, he went down hill...fast. I heard that a trade will take place in 8 days or so. I think Frye may help the second group off the bench if he plays like he did at Arizona. I also don't think he was able to play to his full potential under Isiah.

Re: Looks like the blazers might have got something right!!!
I really miss the old "Rip City" days. I think it does wonders for the state, all the way around. Team spirit like that, tends to make everything better. When a city/state has that spirit, it raises the spirit and happiness and everyone seems to work together in everything.
I want that back. That excitement... that "state spirit". It's good stuff!
Go Blazers!

Re: Looks like the blazers might have got something right!!!
was watching the draft and not a big fan of Stephan A Smith his voice and cocky attitude of like nails on the chalk board but he said something that I felt proud to hear he said that the fans of Portland care more about the character of the players than they do about winning games and this is a franchise where the team finally agrees with the fans and they are doing everything to change there image and if it means losing games they will do that hopefully other teams will follow there lead
