Need Wingman for Gari Saturday 6/30
Looking for a wing for a TUNA! trip out of Gari on Saturday. Leaving port just after low tide (around 7:30 AM or shortly after they drop the flag) and heading west. Will be fishing inside 125 until boat is plugged or fuel level/time dictate the return. I will not be running to the barn in the dark - back at port hopefully by 3:00 to 4:00 or so.
Any takers? Send me a PM and we'll coordinate. I really need a running mate for this trip, as it will be my first TUNA! trip of the season.
Thanks
CrF

The 14 foot Valco and I would like to join you but I think we might have a little trouble keeping up with the 15 horse good luck and go get em!! When you decide you are done, stick one more for a guy who use to spend every day on the ocean and now simply has to reminise!! Bring on the 7th!!

Re: Need Wingman for Gari Saturday 6/30
CF, I am going to run out of Garibaldi on Saturday. I was hoping I could get out early rather than waiting for the slack. The exchange is from a 6.9 high to -1.2, thats not good but I think I take a look see anyway. My thought is to leave port about 4:00AM. If that doesn't work, a later crossing will have to work. I will be monitoring 14 when I get outside.

TV - that's right in the middle of the ebb with an 8' exchange. Do you think that the bar will be open? I'll also monitor 14 as well as 78.

I am going to look for tidal current data for Garibaldi and see what that shows before I set the cast off time.

Re: Need Wingman for Gari Saturday 6/30
Chromaflage,
I am going for Tuna on Sat and would welcome the company. I agree that a 7:30 start is a good idea due to the large ebb. I also want to fish inside the 125 line as my practical range limit is about 45miles out. I am hoping the S/SW winds will push more fish closer by Sat. PM me for details and coordination if this plan works for you. I could also be easily talked into pulling down to Depoe or Newport.

Re: Need Wingman for Gari Saturday 6/30
We'll have plenty of boats on Saturday...let's work together and make a plan so we are spread out and cover all the water inside before we end up 50 miles off shore.
On Tuesday, we had 3 boats working a small area and everyone was hooking multiples.
Communication is the key to everyone's success...although with these fish counts...even the blind squirrels should find the nuts!
14 on the VHF
Tuna Time, Seelicious, Sea Fox, Mercenary, Wy's Guy, Pera Lynn, Cobia, Roadbuilder...anyone else?

With only a 4 foot swell and 1 foot chop the GB bar may not be an issue. Hair eyeball boys.

A plan sounds good. You got something in mind?
BTW is there someplace to get ice early AM in Garibaldi?

Okay, it's official. Cool Cat and Ms. Beverly will join the chase with the Grady Bunch and the rest of you Garibaldi whimps. Leaving the dock around 7:30am for some fun. See ya on channel 14. I think Keywest will be down as well.
I have Pop's and my two boys on board. The wee one Daylin the almost 8 year old is on his first tuna mission. He is excited!!!!!!!!!!

Re: Need Wingman for Gari Saturday 6/30
The Garibaldi Plan:
Depending on new SST's and Chrl...we're talking about spreading out north to south on the 124:35 line and then troll west until we find decent numbers.
The bigger pods of fish are at the 125 line, or they were.
We won't run over fish and we should have a few by the time we get off shore 40 miles or so...of course this does not apply to us...we're not allowed to catch a fish unless we're 50 miles out...but that could change!
No one has really fished above the 45:35 line out of Garibaldi...most of the action has come down between 45:10 and 45:25...something to think about.
If the boats that come out late call us, we can tell them what water we have covered so they don't waste time or fuel.
Make sense?

Ok really quick....
How far is the 125 line out from Garibaldi? Just thinking about an early run for us we usually head out later in the year. Thanks

Makes great sense Bud, nice to see your great numbers Wednesday, I'm trying to get out of going to my nieces graduation so I can be out there Saturday with you and the Boys. I have to figure out witch will cost me more, $300 fuel or extra graduation gift for ditching?

44nm from the tips to the line if you run straight west.
Closest fish that I have heard thus far is 124:16

Re: Need Wingman for Gari Saturday 6/30
Bud, some food for thought here. The commerial guy that stopped by the cleaning station said that they were picking up fish as close as 124 15. One thing I did notice yesterday was that any signs of surface life stopped within 20 miles of shore (birds with bait).
Want to get sporty and competitive let's see who can catch the closest TUNA to the shore. I have a feeling that with the huge number of fish here this early that they'll be in close this year, my guess would be that we'll have reports of TUNA within 5 miles of shore.
Good luck Saturday

I talked to a charter captain today and he said the commercials were catching tuna at 45 22 X 124 22. Who knows where they will be by Saturday.

Is this possible that this Hot Tuna Rodeo is a fluke and in a week or so will move off shore and be back to normal for this time of year?
Can this good of fishinng last all summer?
I think I will do all I can while it's hot.
Let the good times roll!!!

Yes, there is a cleaning station next to the Old Mill. Not the best but it works fine.
BOE knows it well...

Re: Need Wingman for Gari Saturday 6/30
I just spoke with Old Mill on the phone. The fish cleaning station is availble to use for a $5 fee. The boat washdown area is not yet available/ready for use. They are running some new water lines and probably repairing the steps.

Missed this on the last post...
There are a few boats leaving early...4-4:30 am and will run SW unless we have reason to change that before tomorrow morning.
Those leaving later should hail on 14...Tuna Time is coordinating that early pack...not trying to tell people what to do...just trying to be efficient hunters.
Please do your weather dance tonight and we'll see you in the morning!!
Peace-

We'll come in behind ya, leaving the dock around 6:00AM to pick up all those fish you ran over. We'll likely be a bit north of you. Will hail on 14.

Next to the Old Mill is Port Property...and so is the cleaning station...you're all good brother!
Depending on how many of our moorage customers are using our cleaning station, I might be able to open that up to SD's for the overflow.
I'll let you guys know on 14.

Wetsand says 2-3' swells with max 6 knt winds. Time to hit the rack and dream of crashing birds and airborne longfins.
See y'all at the dock.
