Need HELP!!! Kicker question.........

I have a 8hp kicker on my Arima and man is it having some issues...First it took me a while to get it started but I finally got it...I replaced the plugs and the fuel..When it started the idle shot through the roof!!!I adjusted the idle and everything....It was so bad that I coulnd't let it run on its own or I swear it would have blown the engine....

Any advise???? TIPS???? I dont know a whole lot about outboard motors yet, but I am learning.....

What make? 4stk or 2stk?
If a newer 4stk, it make be a fuel enrichment issue. Most new 4stks have a fuel enrichment device that basically acts like a fast idle until it warms and then it back off and drops to normal.

Look at the throttle linkage on the carb, it is probably stuck open. You can usually free them up with some WD-40 and some careful pressure with pliers.

Thanks you two for responding with some ideas....I am going to try both options.....Check the carb and maybe make a new mixture of gas and oil to make sure its correct...
