Terminal 6 area of the Columbia River
Where is it and where do ya launch from?
Any tips on hazards and good Sturgeon holes would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
Mr. F.

Re: Terminal 6 area of the Columbia River
Put in at Cathedral Park under the St. Johns Bridge, head down river until you get to the Columbia (6 miles), then go up river. You'll see the cranes and container ships on your right.
Good luck.

Re: Terminal 6 area of the Columbia River
Mr Fisherman, look for '2700' spray painted on the dock. Its on the west end. Follow that straight away from the dock till you find the edge of the drop off.
This is a weird place to fish because of some cross currents under water. You cast away from the boat and the line ends up under the boat every time. Pyramid weights help. Some nice fish get caught here. Use a smelt and sandshrimp combo.
Hope that helps.

Re: Terminal 6 area of the Columbia River
Beware of Cathedral park launch. I have a union brother that works for PFB, and he told me to launch somewhere else, due to the high number of vehicle break-in's there. If you do go there, dont leave anything in your vehicle worth stealing. There's nothing worse than a thief in my book, dont give them a reason. Watch eack other's back.
Happy Fishing!

Re: Terminal 6 area of the Columbia River
You could try Fred's Marina..but it's kinda steep at the water line....Not sure how it is now with the water being so low. I think it cost ya 5 bucks there. The other alternative would be the 43rd. Street ramp on Marine drive...but it's probably more of a run downriver than from Fred's. Also there's a ramp on the Washington side right accross from the 43rd. Street ramp. Is it Wintler Park?? Help me here guys............or then there's the one just below Frenchman's Bar.........on the Washington side.........

Re: Terminal 6 area of the Columbia River
Unimproved ramp at Larson's Marina would work
if your boat isn't too big and your tow vehicle can handle it. This is just down from Fred's not very far and Elizabeth and Dwayne are the nicest people. Have always felt pretty safe parking in the lot here! Good Luck.

Re: Terminal 6 area of the Columbia River
42ND st. is the Multnomah county river patrol headquarters. No gate, huge parking lot, open 24/7. Is crime less there? Maybe. The distance from there or Cathedral Park to T-6 is close enough to not matter. It's about 15 miles round trip.
The Ramp on the WA. side across from 42nd st is Marine park. They charge now during the summer for launch and the gate is only open like 6am to 10pm. Nice ramp, but lots of PWCs, what a pain.
I've heard about the Vancouver lake launch site but don't know what it's called. It sounded like the perfect spot because it's closer. I think MrDorkFish knows about that one.
Fred's is for gapers. Charge too much and bad attitude. I won't ever spend any money there for any reason. Just my $0.02.

Re: Terminal 6 area of the Columbia River
I usually launch at Cathedral Park. I have not had any problems or heard of anyone having any problems there lately. I did hear that they had problems a few years back. I thought the facilities were fairly decent. The ramp easily accomodates three rigs at a time. My only complaint is the docks could use some repair. I have picked up a few scratches out there.

Re: Terminal 6 area of the Columbia River
Last year there were some problems at Cathedral during the early spring salmon season. The prime suspects were a bunch of guys living in the apartments half way up the hill ... you know the type: not at work in the middle of the day, cars that might be worth $50, ... they seem to be gone. I haven't heard of trouble there this season.
