Whats going on out there. any reports. Sturgeon, bass, shad, salmon, or crabbing.

I understand the fishing for sturgeon is picking up in the lower river around the bridge. We were there Memorial day weekend and got eight with three keeper size.(one 43",46" and a 51"er)Nice fat ocean run fish it appeared. The other couple days there didn't treat us very well however. We did talk to people who did limit each day, and the story was pretty much the same. They were fishing the shallower flats(20' or less), and using sand shrimp. These reports were from the Tongue Point area.Strong tides and adverse weather that weekend.Good fishing... Saturday night crabbing at T bay. We got quite a few crabs mostly soft ones, but not a limit. Saw a few guys fishing sturgeon as we came up 101 by the Oyster dock.

Sunday morning at T bay. Filled out the crab limit and went salmon fishing in the Coast Guard hole. Rockfish carcasses outfished shad.

There was a guide, John? who had a nice 30+ lb fish and a smaller one at the boat ramp. He was leaving at 10am with happy clients. Those were the only Salmon I saw Sunday. The effort was about 50 boats scattered through the bay.

The man was at the boat launch checking equipment in boats and for alcohol poisoning. I had a dud for a fire extinguisher so I got a warning and no sticker.

Last Thursday, Deschutes River below Warm Springs, above Maupin:
weather hot!
some salmonflies in the trees, a few being eaten by fish.
caught 3 fish in the morning on salmon fly, golden stone, and elk-hair caddis. Two redsides and a finclipped 9" steelhead. Caught one in the evening, 14" and an aerial performer.

Friday morning, nothing!

Last sunday, The gorge for sturgeon and Shad. went out of the fishery.

Zippo on Shad - gave up after an hour (we were a little late in the am to get started).

switched to sturgeon. Got one nice 51" keeper, 1 oversize, and 1 oversize got away, about 7-8 shakers. Saw lots of boats - most seemed to be getting into the oversize.

Fished the Tillamook River Sunday afternoon. No sturgeon bite, no bullheads to annoy the sand shrimp, but occasional lighting raps, then nothing.

Towards evening both my wife and I got a hook into those fish ... steelhead were picking up the bait from the river bottom. Didn't get either steelie on the bank. Perhaps 4/0 barbless hooks aren't the optimum choice for summers.

Hit the Nestucca on the way home after getting chilled by the late afternoon breeze on the river. Several bluebacks hung on spinners but no sign of steelhead or springers.

On a good day, I get to go fishing. Occasionally, I have a great day and actually catch something.
