Moderators
I am going to cast the first vote that the moderators of the FUTURE be annonymous. All in favor.......
We need rules enforcement for the sponsors? So be it, but lets not burden those who supply us technical knowledge. It seems that management is using the best talent to do clean up. Sure would be easier job if mods were invisible. I'm glad Stew took the step down, now he'll be more available to talk fishing.
If that don't work, get some looser sponsers like Jody's or the likes.

I'm gonna have to disagree simply because I came up with the idea and since everyone is going to of COURSE agree with me that there needs to be at least one person to disagree with me to keep my ego from getting too big. Re: Moderators
HUH? Your kidding right? By the way, if it was your idea, I second it and we should be well on our way to fixing this area of concern.

Re: Moderators
Good idea. I think something else that might take some heat off the Moderators, is for the Administrator and Moderators to understand their audience a little better.
Lets face it, many who post on this board offend the people who run the board with language, jokes etc.. This also offends some people who read the board. I sometimes feel that if someone with conservative views has a problem with a post, it gets edited or deleted. You are dealing with a sport that has a crude side in many cases, it ain't croquet. If you don't like it, don't read it. If you censor all the people who are sometimes crude, you will also be losing some of your most knowledgable fishermen. I don't care for some of the writings / ramblings on the main page, so I just skip it. No big deal. I don't think vulgar language is appropriate, but adult views certainly are.
Anyway, just try to understand the people you are reaching with this board are probably going to be a little less conservative than you for the most part.
One person who seems to be able to reach a happy median with both groups is Osprey. Bait o' Eggs is another.

Boater, Boater, Boater,
How can we let you moderate???? All posts on boats except for good comments about Woolridges would be deleted.......and all we would here about is how much you like Sportjets!!!! I vote we impeach all of the moderators and make it a free for all!!!!!
Good luck and tight lines, Jeff

Re: Moderators
Why are there so many complaints about the actions of the moderators? This BB has certain rules that are meant to be obeyed. If you break the rules when posting, you stand the chance of having it deleted or edited and it is NO ONE'S fault but your own. If you need to complain, take it to the sponsors who have asked for these rules to be put into place. If something needs to be said to someone, why not e-mail that person directly. You could even put something like "let's take care of this privately" as a reply on the BB so it doesn't seem to others like you are ignoring the issue. Maybe this would cause a few less headaches on the moderators as well. Plus they can't edit our e-mails...yet
Spooled- A few crude people shouldn't mean that fishing has a crude side. Unless you're talking about fishing with a cane pole with kite string and a paper clip, of course.

Re: Moderators
Spooled, that's one of the best ideas I've heard in a long time on here - I second your nomination of Osprey for moderator. And I'm not being facecious (sp?)either. I'm serious. He's knowledgable about fishing and he's funny. The responsibility would likely smooth out his slightly rough edges. And this site would rock again! When he has to he can put an out of line member in place too. You can do it Mike. All in favor check in. ...
BOE is a good candidate too. He know's moderators inside and out, as many of you have noticed. And I would love that so I can critic him back. ... Os and BOE as co-moderators. Yes!!!

Re: Moderators
I nominate Spooled. He has the stroke as proven on the S. Santiam Saturday. Stroke, stroke, stroke. I, I captain sir I will try letting both rods out at the same time. Just keep the darn boat straight. Oh shut up RB and fish! Tough guy that Spooled dude.
Would make a great moderator if given the chance. Plus I think he even voted for Perot in this last election. Now that is independant thinking eh.
Spooled, Spooled, Spooled guide us through the white water of these fishy pages.

Re: Moderators
Why do sponsors really care about language, jokes, or what ever they get their pannies in a bunch over They get their subliminal messages (advertisements) across regardless of what is said. When this site was at its peak, before excessive intervention, the attendance on this board was awesome! Attendance=Patronage+$$$$$$
I also support the nomination for Os and BOE as co-moderators or the anonymous idea is good too.

Re: Moderators
I say we get the Boutabi brothers: Steve and Doug.
They'll be straightforward, and they will shake it with the hotties, plus they know what makes a party: fluffy whip.
If not them, I guess Osprey would be a good candidate
Moderator sounds like a handle to me, so I second anonymity.

Great post eggs, almost as good as your story
of the Deschutes trip. I see from the floatilla thread, you still fly the rebel flag. However, we can't have a Husky fan moderating even if PIGS fly.

Re: Moderators
It's like this, if you are making everyone a little unhappy as a referee then you are doing it right.
Ditto on the thankless job as described numerous times above. It's not real fun to dive into what is often a personal spitwad fight and try to sort it out. It is even harder to not appear to take sides. It is not a popularity contest. This forum is on the honor system. People post whatever they want within reason and hopefully the author uses a little common sense and restraint. If not, well that's why there's a referee.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I see the moderator gig as one requiring a little craftsmanship. If you are unwilling to sign your work it was probably not your best effort.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
One last comment, If we stick to fishing and water related subjects the board fulfills its purpose. People share info, learn and work together. When we stray into environmental or political or god forbid religious issues, all hell breaks loose.
I came here as part of a salvage effort. This place was out of control and it pained me to see the great 'IFISH' in such a state. I'll keep right on reading all of your posts and comments and using 'laisse faire' as much as possible.
The bottom line is wait a few minutes when you type something. Think about it. If it seems to you like it will anger someone, guess what it probably will. Edit on your second thoughts and then post it. If you want to flame someone do it in person or with E-mail.

Re: Moderators
I'm with Pilar...he couldn't have said it better. However the anonymous idea isn't bad...but then someone out there would eventually think it was a bad idea..and then we'd be back to where we started. I just wish we all would stick to the subject of fishing...and leave out the politics....and if someone feels like "flaming" someone...I wish they'd do it through the E-Mail..I for one probably have been "lenient" when it comes to the posts...but alot of the posts that have been "moderated" have been edited before I get a chance to see what's going on here. Pilar has it right....if someone irritates you...take a deep breath...maybe even wait a while to "Chill" before responding. There's such a wealth of good people and information here...I for one don't want to have someone come up to me while I'm out there fishing complaining about something that happened here on the board. I hope to meet all of you eventually and have a good time while doing so.

Re: Moderators
Pilar and FM have it right about chilling off and editing BEFORE clicking on the 'Post Message' icon. I stand right up front in needing to learn to do that before I post in anger. I react then go back 'chilled out' and try to edit my post to a less affrontive mode. You 2 have the right idea for us that need it. Thanks for the reality check. - Steve ....
BOE, good flying pig cartoon comeback to Os. I've seen a lot of pigs fly all over the country Os. You were supposed to say the popular cliche', I'll moderate 'as soon as you see monkeys fly out of my butt'.

Re: Moderators
Thank you for your support.
The things that make me want to 'moderate' are blatant selfishness or unfairness. That and the common sense things like profanity for profanity sake, **** links and public thrashing and flaming.
Laisse Faire works. For the most part a lot of good stuff goes into this board by people with the right idea. The best part is they do it for free and give it away to anyone who can read. I'd give anything to convert some of you lurkers into posters and contributing members.
Just think of all the stuff 'We' know out there. If we only knew all of the stuff we know!
Thank you all for your willingness to share info. You are the ones that make the thankless job fun.
There are a few however that make me read it all ......

Re: Moderators
Actually we shouldnt even need moderators. We are all mature adults here, Well most of us. Some people just dont get the concept that this is a family oriented BB. When posting people should ask themselves if it is something there mother would want to read. I personally stay away from the posts that cause controversy. Ive only been flamed once and I took care of it myself, I didnt run to the moderators crying for help.
I understand that everyone as there own opinions on things. Even if I think someones opinion is way off base I keep my mouth shut about it. I dont understand how come some people get so angery about an opinion.
The only thing we need moderators for is to keep the trouble makers in check. If everyone goes by the guidelnes we wouldnt have any problems at all.

Pilar,
You are the greatest!
Meeting quality folks like you are what keep me coming back to the board.
I haven't seen any farm animal links or **** stuff and the foul mouths are pretty much kept to a minimmum.
My hats off to all the moderators. I think you are a necessary evil and from what I've seen ya fish pretty darn well (See, no need to edit )
Keep up the good work and let's go fishin' again reel soon.

Thanks is given, has been given, and will be given to those who fill and have filled a "thankless job". Sometimes it's those posts that have to make someone feel loved or something.
I say Osprey because no one loves him and he knows it, and he needs no thanks. Just eggs.

Hey OS, quit slammin Bait-o-eggs, thats my job...........
I vote for BOE for moderator, since he don't do anything at his job he has time during the day and since he don't catch no fish, he has time during the evening, and because his ******* is so small he don't do anything at night, so he has time then........ Hey Roy, time for us to go fishing again so you can stash some more dead things in my boat as a pay back.........

Well with ** obviously being the new unannounced moderator (don't try to hide it from us **), I figure we can really cut loose on here now, ay? We have been planning on coming out with this for some time but have been reluctant to post that here. But this is where everyone should know about **** ** ** *** *** ****! Also, that fake argument between Tanner and me the other day is because he actually has **** ** **** with 'Stew almost as long as me! And BOE is dis'n me in posts because he also has been ******* 'Stew. Come to think of it, you are a **** 'Stew. ....
On another note; Willierower, better rethink the "OK for my Mother" guidelines! Booooooring! Besides, is anyone's Mother reading in on this site? BTW, I got home late last night and got a message from you, but no number. E-mail me. ....
And on a serious note, my $0.02 opinion is that Pilar would make a very good lead moderator. He doesn't shy away from gettin on someone when he deems it necessary - he got on my *** once - and he's got a clue and can be stylin' with the best of us. And a downright likable guy (we've met in person). Great smoked tuna too! Go Pilar. Hookset is cool too. I haven't got to meet FM yet, but he's a fish catcher. Thanks for your efforts guys! - RT
