Well today I went out for my first Halibut trip. Went out of Newport with Chinook Guide Service. The day started off with a great sunrise.
We headed out to the Rockpile, and around 8:00 I got into my first ever Halibut. I was pretty stoked. Taped out at 41".
Things were a bit slow for a while after that. Around 11:00 we let a small one go, and then about 20 minutes later we had two rods go off. These two taped out at 31" and 34". Not as big as we would have liked, but it we decided to make them our limit and go after some salmon
We ended up going 4 for 7 on Coho. 1 clipped fish and 3 natives. Here is a pic of the days haul.
It ended up being a gorgeous day on the ocean. Not too rough and lots of sunshine.
Now for my plea. Once back at the dock I saw something my eyes had never seen before. Now that I have seen it, I want to chase it. I saw TUNA! and lots of them. I have no TUNA! experience. Heck I don't even have a whole lot of ocean experience, but I want to chase them bad now. I have plenty of fishing experience, just not on the salt. Someone take pity on a guy. I'm just a boy with a dream.
