Kismet Report...Saturday 9/23
Just got off the phone with Crabby. He was on board with John. They were out around the 125 line. Hooked up with a triple a few doubles, and lots of singles. Finished the day with 25 tuners! Most all on troll gear. They also arrived at port with 4 Halibut.
...Not a bad day, 25 tuna and 4 Halibut!
Great job guys! I'm sure they'll have the 'real' report coming soon!.. this is only an update for all of ya that are wondering!:lurk:
tuna, tuna, TUNA, TUNA, TUNA, TUNA, TUNA!!

Re: Kismet Report...Saturday 9/23
I crewed on Kismet today and what a stellar day it was! The weather was awesome and the porpoises chased us all day long, very cool. Got to see all Crabby's latest rod creations as well.. Very sweet rods my friend! My friend Justin went along and caught his first TUNA! and halibut ever....chalk another one up to John .......ok, I'm beat and just got home, I'll post some pictures in the morning....whew!

Re: Kismet Report...Saturday 9/23
See I don't need to retune the rod holders, the tune is working just right.
The melodie call the Halibut and Tuna.
For those who are not informed I will let the tellers of the tail tell all.

Re: Kismet Report...Saturday 9/23
Dang beat me by 1. 24 tuna and 4 halibut for us but we beat Kismet back to the dock. Nice to see all the dogs down in Newport this weekend. Biggest T/A meeting I've ever seen.

He beat me by 1 also...1 Halibut, cause thats all we could legally keep, I got him on the Tuna tho, 29 for us + 19 Crab, & we still beat him back in. It was truly a awesome day, We called Triple C in also to the hot Tuna bite, as we were leaving, & the radio lit up within minutes with fish on, last I heard he was going to try for the Triple, with Salmon on the way in, don't know if he pulled it off. John tried to talk me into going again today, but geez! 3 day's for Tuna thats enough. They probably plugged the boat today.

Re: Kismet Report...Saturday 9/23
Good job Kismet! We spent the day at the ranch and picked up a couple chickens. We didnt have the right crew to chase tuners, only three on board one was pretty green, slept most of the time. So we coasted.

Re: Kismet Report...Saturday 9/23
Yes .. it was good to be back on the blue lake. And really good to see the blowhole show and TUNA! flopping in the back of the boat.
Somehow I missed fishing with Crabbait until last Saturday and we had a blast. The new guy was kinda green for most of the day but he made a revival at the last to reel in and even gaff a fish. That was the highlight for me. The new guy swinging a tuna over the rail.
We tried to do the live bait .. and learned a few things. The bait does not tolerate the 10 degree temp change very well. About 1/2 the bait died. Once they start to roll the dead ones poison the tank. We never found a boil to fish on. The one time we did get some livies in the water the sharks were right there.
I'll try it again maybe ice in the tank or just take a few dozen. 150 was too many.
The new roof rack is the bomb. Crabbait wasted no time getting comfortable with standing up on the bridge and hanging off the tower. The holders don't sing when there is a rod jammed in them.
Another highlight was the pod of Dahl porpoise that came and played around the boat for a long time. They just circled us as we reeled in fish. We saw them several times Saturday and they seemed to be chasing something at the surface as a group.
Everyone we heard on the radio seemed to be getting fish and the banter back and forth was good.
I want to take a minute to thank my crew. New friends and old ... you guys are awesome. We got turned around in just a few hours and ready to go the next day.
Sunday was a different story. The fish are here and until the wind powered refrigerator kicks in they are close and seem to be everywhere.
Lefty .. yep that's me. I moved her to South Beach this last weekend. Repairs completed and the check ride was flawless. I live in the groundskeepers cottage on the Anderson Blueberry farm.
Where are you>? Are you the guy that I saw moving the big boat last week?

Good seeing Kismet out there again, John, I wasn't sure if you were gonna make it, I guess you just couldn't stand it anymore. Congratulations on the Halbicore first trip of the season. I take it Sun was a little rough? How did you do?, anybody else out there with you Sun?

Re: Kismet Report...Saturday 9/23
Ken .. all things in good time. I made some choices and spent time and effort on me, a nice place to live and other important life stuff. TUNA! fishing comes in about third.
Life issues pretty much resolved now .. back to the fishing channel .. all fishing all the time.
How did you cram all those fish in that boat Ken? Never mind I know how that deal goes having practiced shove - ometry and carc - ulus on the Pilar.
There's another post about Sunday. We whimped out and scrubbed.

Glad your back in the Saddle John. You still got me beat on how many Tuna you can get in a 19' boat, 43 in Pilar WOW! You the man. If I modify my Bow I think I can squeeze in another 8 or 10 fish, but why?
I already thinking about going out again Wed, how about you?

Another great day on the water. Thanks for everything, John.
We found it best when John worked the cockpit with Paul and I drove the boat. When we switched the fishing died for a couple of hours and when we found them they wanted to find the handlines.
I scrubbed Sunday, too. Got out of bed about noon.
