thievery at marmot dam (oh, and the fishing report)

i was up at marmot dam on saturday and someone took a screwdriver to my doorlocks. busted up the locks nicely and rifled the car but didn't take anything. he (or she, don't want to be sexist here) was either looking specifically for a wallet or got scared off by a passing car. either way, i got off light this time. lesson learned. i could've lost my cell phone, drift rod, waders or any number of other things i drag around in my rig on a regular basis because i'm too lazy to take them out. won't see me doing that anymore.
by the way, i haven't seen too much action up there just yet. i saw a chinook and a steelhead taken out the weekend before and talked to a guy on friday who release a big fat native chinook because he didn't know that natives can be kept on the sandy. i'm still waiting to punch a springer on my card for this year. seen a few roll but that's all so far. i'll be up there some more.

Let's see. Marmot Dam, Rig boken into, imagine that .
Sorry to hear about your misfortune Ampersat. Doesn't it suck that some jerk offs with no regard for others have to ruin such a great place?
I say we trap some of them and re-enact a certain scene from Deliverance.
You up for it Hey Yall

Re: thievery at marmot dam (oh, and the fishing report)
A couple of years ago I had me truck broken into in a similiar fashion, of course I had to replace a window. When I filed a police report the gal told me the best way to deter this from happening in the future was to leave my doors unlocked. Go figure! Now why in he!! didn't I think of that! I've even had my plastic windows on my Jeep slit with a knife. Little did the would be thief know that old Jeeps didn't have door locks.

Re: thievery at marmot dam (oh, and the fishing report)
i wasn't really posting this as a "oh me, oh my! my precious car!" more as an FYI to those headed up that way. i've been lurking around here for a while and talked to quite a few folks about the break-ins that occur on a regular basis in places where folks leave their vehicles to go fish. i'm not so naive as to think that this was that out of the ordinary. in fact, i had just talked to a guy up there a week before who told me that last year his buddy had his rig broken into twice in the same day while at the slaughter hole!

Ampersat,
I wasn't razzin you or anything. I was just trying to get across to everyone how pathetic it is that this kind of thing is becoming far too common.
Sorry for the misunderstanding.
Tight lines.

I don't think crooks have the brain power to check for locked doors NorRivDave. When I had my window smashed out up at Eagle Creek, the door was unlocked. What people will do for a fishing rod and some pants.

Re: thievery at marmot dam (oh, and the fishing report)
don't worry, tanner, i didn't take it as a razzin'. it's all in fun. also, so much for my bright idea of leaving the rig unlocked in hopes of keeping my windows intact. i guess you take your chances no matter what. i'm just glad they didn't get my drift rod and waders.
i'm thinking of getting a newer truck in the next year and i think i'm going to have a car alarm installed. out in the middle of nowhere, no one is going to pay much attention to it but maybe the noise will scare them off. also, i'm going to have separate horns installed in the cab and in the bed under the shell. i want it to be so painfully loud inside the truck that they can't stand to be inside to take anything. what do you think? if i could rig up a stun gun, that would be even better. i'd come back to find 'em passed out next to the truck.
