Default Where are you Fishy Fingers?

I was selling a few crab pots late last year. I get an email from an ifish lurker who wanted to take a look at them. He had never crabbed before and was interested in checking them out. Not being a crabber he had a lot of questions about how to do it.

I get Petermac, 2 of his kids, myself and this guy who was named Patrick and we all go crabbing. A great day except for the weather. We put 60 crabs in the boat and then hang around the dock and cook them and overall it was a great time.

I have not heard from Patrick for quite a while. Last night I go out to put a few shad in the freezer and I anchor up next to a driftboat with a pair of ifish stickers on it. And as we all know finding an ifish sticker on the water can sometimes be very tough. Well it was my friend Patrick who I took crabbing.

He tells me has been lurking, he actually got around to registering a name "Fishy Fingers", but has never made a post. I dont know may people that have registered, sport ifish stickers, but wont participate. He told me he doesnt know enough to contribute. Heck this guy was putting a hurt on the shad with his fly pole

I would like for all to welcome "Fishy Fingers" to ifish. Maybe he will come out of the closet and tell us what pattern he was using last night.

Welcome Patrick.

Don’t be afraid to post here. Everyone has something to offer. Heck if Bait can log 816 post that alone should make you feel more comfortable.

Welcome!

816 posts???!! Geez Roy Well since you have Osprey's monkey, that rate at which you are posting will start to diminish. So where in Oregon can you buy a confederate flag? Also, why do they even sell confederate flags out here again? I think it's the mojo for your boat, so keep her flyin'.

Welcome Fishy Fingers!

Take me for example...I don't know Jack Schite and I'm up and over two hundred posts.

Just jump in, and let it floooowwww through your fingertips. Make sure and wash your hands afterwards, cuz no one is going to want to shake hands with that flowing out of your fingers.

Hello out there in Ifish land. I have been lurking, as Bait O' has mentioned. I have really enjoyed reading all the interesting and helpful posts as well as following several soap box operas. I didn't post because I don't have much to share from a knowledge postion seeing that I am just learning to fish, and sometimes catch, these lurking Northwest fish species. I do feel like I am part of a great fishing fraternity in belonging to Ifish. That is why I have the stickers on my drift boat. I have noticed how helpful fellow Ifishers are to each other and willing to take others under their wings, like Roy did me when he took me crabbing for my first time. Now that I am out of the closet I will try to be more active on the site. I was using something green and shiny when I was fly fishing for shad. It was a blast and about all my wrist could take. They are really fun to catch. Thanks Bait O" Eggs.

Hey FF,
What kind of set-up were you using (floating, sinking, weight, etc.)? I haven't caught a shad yet and would love to make the first one on a fly. I don't have a boat either. Are the shad generally close enough to shore to even be able to fly fish?
Thanks for any info.
Tony

Super T

Yes, you can fish from the shore. I was in a boat anchored only about 10ft from the shore. You should fish in about 10-15ft of water. Just watch where the boats are anchored fishing for shad. I was using a 5 weight rod with a fast sinking line. I had on a short leader, about 5 feet of 10lb, with a split shot about 18inches up from the "fly". The fly was something I bought at Fisherman's Marine, it was like a scud with a heavy beaded head. The body was a bright, shinny green. I would cast up river and let the line sink as it passed me. Do a steady, slow retreive when you think the fly is about 2-3 feet off of the bottom. Hold on, they hit hard. Dave at Fishermans in Oregon City will line you out with what you need and where to fish. Good Luck.
