Who has served in the military?
After reading Waggle's thread on going into the Marines I started thinking about how many ifisher's have serviced. So, I thought if might be fun to post about our service.
I'll start.
US Navy from March 1993 to Sept 2003
served on to fast attack submarines: USS Pogy and USS Helena
Got out as Nuclear Machinist Mate First Class, E-6

Tried enlisting in 1969 -1970. Went to three different states to enlist- Same thing everytime- deaf as a post- But they did administer every kind of needle first and inspect every orafice before the hearing test.
Army- nope
Air Force- Nope
Marines-everybody knows the marines will take anyone- Nope
Coast Guard- Nope- Didn't get past the exam room before they had my records.
Navy-Nope-almost
Started out in Oregon- no enlist darn
Go to North Carolina- no enlist
Go to Texas- Uncle in Navy in Chorpus Christy- he'll help me.
Almost got thur the door before they recieved my records.
As soon as I got into the exam room Some Captain came out and drug me off the line and explained to me that I had been flagged 4 F Medically unable to serve, I said What? And he Said : That's what I mean, Boy you are deaf! Uncle Sam doesn't need you.
Uncle laughed his head off- We tried!

Hi,
I was in the Nave from 1988 - 1994. Served on 1 shore base (Groton Ct. Fixing communication systems on submarines) and 1 ship (AD 41 Destroyer Tender out of Norfolk.

Hats off to the defenders of our great nation. I wanted to, not because of some deep sense of duty, but because I like guns and blowing stuff up. But itt would have meant severing all ties with my mother, and I wasn't really ready to do that.
Could have gone USCG, and would have if I would have thought of it. Never even occurred to me.

boot camp was in Ft. Sill, OK
I'll never forget it. Boot camp was the hardest thing in my life, but it gave me the strength to move forward and it felt incredible to be a part of the military and supporting our nation. It was an honor.
