Default Sandy River

What a strange year so far! Is anyone catching fish right now? Im sure not.

The steelheading was hot early on, then we switched to chinook in May. The bite was hot and cold. Two weeks ago it started to get hot, then died with that heat wave and just hasn't picked back up yet.

I fished again this morning, not many people out. Saw very few fish roll, and those that I did see seemed to be dark. Same story, different day I guess. Thats the way its been. Threw everything I had at them. Bobber fishing and drift fishing with shrimp and eggs, I even tried plunking a spin'n'glow and dragging a few lures. Not a bump. Yesterday I hooked one steelhead, but today there werent even any steelies around. I only saw two other guys, they got skunked too. I swung by the lower river on the way home. Only a few people fishing from Dabney down, the whole river just seems slow.

Any one else give it a try this weekend? I hope its just not me having all the bad luck.

Seems odd. There should be a steady stream of fresh fish coming through the river, it is June after all.

Hopefully next weekend will be better. Im considering giving up and switching over into my Columbia River mode.

Sandy --

You are not alone in the bad luck department. I hit it hard this morning from the bank. I saw one nice salmon caught first thing in the morning. That boat had another take down later on. Saw one nice salmon being cleaned off at Jack's. So, there were a couple of successes.

I tried plunking and bobber w/ shrimp & eggs. Did get a sucker and sculpin.

The river was coming up slowly and getting some color to it. Still hated to leave.
