Default Where have all the Slims gone?

Does anyone have a clue about why the shad bite in the channel has died off? Four rods, four people, four hours, and two shad. We out fished most. Going again later this morning as we have company here with the sole purpose of taking home crab bait. Any ideas would be appreciated. We fished Coon Island. Thanks in advance. shad fishing is a lot better when you have sun on the water to get your lures flashing. Was it overcast while you were fishing?

I always find it can be a tough go unless the sun's out. Try going in the middle of the day.

Finn-icky, It is kinda strange to go to Coon Island this time of year and only catch a few fish. I have noticed that the stretch across from the docks has filled in a bit, making it a bit shallower along the edges. That might be part of the problem.

Since you are a fellow 'Warrenite' (everyone else look away) here is a new method you might want to try. 2.5' dropper. 4' leader. Halfway down the leader attach a 'Freak' wobbler. On the business end, a small shad hook with 4 beads in front of it.3 Chartreuse, increasing in size going away from the hook and 1 flo-red bead at the top. The Freak gives the bead the right action, just like a herring dodger. Not very sporting compared to a single Dick Nite, but it produces!! ooooohhhhhhh a commercial shad rig. OK...tell the others that they can look again.

Thanks Hogtided, I'll give it a go next time out. I agree, the low water this year seems to be mixing things up a bit. By the way, I like your new boat. Next time I see ya out, I'll stop and introduce myself.

Go to OC, the catch just has not been there at Coon Island this year.

I was fishing out in camas at the mouth of the washougal useing a small brass swivel with a small siwash hook on it and outfished everyone around me,20" lead line and 3" leader.might be worth a try.i agree about needing sunlight to get your lure to flash.I was in 8' of water.
