We want a Floatilla update ASAP
OK you guys, we want a full report on the Floatilla as soon as somebody gets to a computer, that is, if you're in any condition to type
I gotsta know if my boys were able to hold their own while surrounded by Oregon's finest . I know it's only mid-afternoon....but I'm getting antsy

Re: We want a Floatilla update ASAP
Hey J, we kicked butt. My boat hooked 13 landing 11. And my son landed 8 fish! True! ...
However, this was at the Dream Casters kids day event at O.C., and the fish were shad. But I'm still glad. The disadvantaged youth came mostly unenthusiastic about the idea and the weather - but they turned out having a great time yelling it up catching bunches of silver bullets from 3 to 5 lbs. ... Lots of fun, but I would have enjoyed the S. Santiam Float too. I figure the Oregon boys likely held their own against the WA hotdawgs.

Re: We want a Floatilla update ASAP
The Oregon boys came out on top. Spooled's boat got 3 or 4? Ramstrong and his cohort nailed 3? Fishhead landed 1. Phunybonz and smiley landed 1?. My boat hit a big ole skunk. A friend of mine who is not an Ifish member came along and his son caught 1.
Hey_Yall and Osprey were 0 each.
Hookset broke off 2 fish.
All in all it wasnt a bad trip. Most of the guys seemed to like the river even though it was very crowded and flowing way too high.
I think some plans are in he works for a Floatilla 3 this fall in Washington. Hopefully this works out and more people an attend. I know I enjoyed myself oday and would like to do it again.
P.S. The redneck and Osprey are hitting another part of the river befor they head home. Hopefully they can put the hurt on a fish or 2.

Re: We want a Floatilla update ASAP
Thanks for the update Willierower. But with Os and the Redneck coming up empty and headin out to try some extra fishing on their own you should have told them to switch from those WA area jigs and try some Oregon fishin stuff on Oregone feesh.

Re: We want a Floatilla update ASAP
Smokywhalen was my cohort today. It was his boat and he did most of the damage. I fished with Os and the Redneck after the event and they left empty handed, I LDR'd a springer right after they left (10lb leader and springer teeth aren't a good combo). I think that if Yall was wearing his **** helmet he would have done better. Great day on the river. It's just funny that all of our fish were hooked within 300 yards of the takeout.

Re: We want a Floatilla update ASAP
The day started with cool temps and showers. I was on this river with willierower 2 weeks ago and I knew that the weather sorta centers in on that area. River flow was holding at 2800 cfs which is a lot of water. The fish are scattered. On a postive note spooled was in the river first and rowed right into a pod of fish going 2 for 3. Good job spooled! We met at Shari's at 5AM, that is everyone but wr and the Washington boys. After a twenty minute wait I went to call the delinquents and got ripped for .55 at the pay phone. I could hear the fish gods talking to me! Anyway we all get launched and I'm thinking it's going to be a good day what with first boat into fish from the start. I'm fishing with wr and we float on down with the armada taking our turns at all the good spots(so many rods in the boat you'd of thought we ran a charter). One good take on a diver & bait but that one got away. Highlight of the day was when willierower hit the white water and splashed my gf who was the third person in the boat.(he got her twice) The weather showers off and on picking up gusto as we get mostly down river, it really starts pouring about when we setup the bar-b-q, cold winds, hard rain. Even saw some lightning as I drove the guys to their rigs. I heard comments about how much pressure was on the river but those guys don't fish the metro area, ain't nothing like OC. No springers hooked by the ifish armada. We did fish some very good looking salmon water too. Anyway it was a good time and met a bunch of ifishers. Can only hope to fish it again under more summer like conditions. Thanks WR it was fun even if we didn't boat any fish. Flotilla III- maybe the coast for fall chinooks? Hey RT the pink worms didn't hook any.

Re: We want a Floatilla update ASAP
Willierower, thanks for helping put on Flotilla II. Nice river and fun right off the bat. We waited at Shari's Restaurant until 5:15 with other IFISHER's and decided that you were a no show, and that meeting at Shari's was just a ploy to get on the river before everyone else. No problem for anyone except for Steelie Steve who was supposed to be on your boat. Word on the river later was that you had a hard time getting O's out of Y'Alls sleeping bag.
At the put in I met Osprey, Hey 'yall, and I think the other guy was Tanner. Anyway, they are assembling this huge Ark. Nothing like the sound of and air wrench at 5:30 A.M. This thing made a drift boat look like an ant.
At the put in we saw Bait 'o Eggs and Hookset with this huge Confederate flag flying in consideration of our friend from the North who is actually from the South. No wonder he is confused sometimes.
My friend (you know what I wanted to use in place of friend )Bernie and I decided to fish right across from the ramp. Next thing I know, the boat with the rebel flag is letting out rebel yells. I'm thinking, it can't be Roy with a fish on, he's got the jinx on, must be Hookset. Sure enough it is Hookset, unfortunatley it broke off.
While were watching that show, one of our rods buries, and we let out the obligatory rebel yell. Bernie (you know what goes here) lands a 9 pound summer. Not bad for 10 minutes of fishing. We rig with new bait and 5 minutes later, another rebel yell from our boat. We land another summer. 10 minutes later rod down and we have to decide what to do. If we keep it, one of us is done fishing, and we haven't even left the put in. We decide to release it, so Bernie puts the screws to it, and off it goes. Just a lucky spot. While we were netting one of the fish, our other rod is hanging over the side of the boat, but with the bait a foot out of the water. I notice after getting the fish in the fish box that the rod hanging over the side is bouncing. A smolt had jumped out of the water and hammered the bait.
Had a great time even with the downpour. A huge thanks to Chuck-n-Duck for the fresh (12 hours old) sand shrimp and sharing his knowledge of the river. Hope you guys did good when you went back up. Speaking of knowledge of the river. The river is easy, except for one spot that has been mentioned in other posts. I guess Willierower considers going over Niagra Falls in a barrel an easy float. It was not bad after you got through it, but did cause some anxiety when you were not expecting it. Thanks to the Washington guys for making the long trip down. Thanks to everyone else involved, especially Chuck-n-Duck. And finally thanks to Bernie my *** ***** you done good. Have fun in Alaska, I doubt the fishing will be much better.
Troy
P.S. Best one liner of the day: "Moderate this". Guess who?

Yes Dan, I heard you say that it won't be that way for Floatilla III - but more importantly I heard you say that's just the way fishing goes sometimes . Let's all not forget that!

Re: We want a Floatilla update ASAP
Had a great time on Floatilla II, especially meeting all you IFishers. Good bunch of people. Thanks to Willierower for putting it together and Chuck n Duck for the bait. Thanks to SteelieSteve for the shuttle. It should be fun on Floatilla III. Hope the rest of you can make it. We had some good hits and did manage one nice Steelhead about 12lbs. Maybe on Floatilla III we should let those Washington guys put-in first with a little head start to make things even

Re: We want a Floatilla update ASAP
Rags. If they plan on bringing the party barge again, you sure you can wait until they put it together before you launch. It might be noon before you launch. I thought the river was rising because they were letting water out of the dam, but it was when the barge hit the water that caused it.

I guess I'm going to have to consider the representatives we sent this time Just kidding, boys, I'm sure you gave it a good effort.
That's how fishing goes sometimes. It won't be that way on Floatilla III though.......did you Oregon guys hear that

Re: We want a Floatilla update ASAP
I had a really good time meeting the other ifisher's. We were a bit ahead of the pack for most of the float along with Spooled and company. We hooked our first steelie drift fishing just above Church Camp and lost it after about five seconds. We hooked another steelie at the first split in the river and managed to boat that one. Bobber and jig did the trick. Unfortunately we couldn't manage anything else for the rest of the drift. We decided to forego the bbq and try our luck back up at spooled's honey hole. We hooked two more up there which were both lost. 1/4 is not good. Oh well. It was nice meeting the other ifisher's and I would definately like to do it again real soon.

Re: We want a Floatilla update ASAP
Thank to all who attended. It is nice to finally put a face to some of the names here on ifish.
As for being a tad bit late. My wife made breakfast for us. I figured some of you guys would eat at Sharis. It really didnt matter though some of still had to wait in line at the ramp.
Sounds like everyone should have stayed at the put in and fished. The hatchery recycled fish there the night befor as well as dumping some at the take out.
Sorry about not warning eveyone about the rough section of water. Its actually a little worse as the water drops, then it mellows out as the water gets lower. Personally I like run big whitewater, I justwish there was some close by.

Re: We want a Floatilla update ASAP
First of all let me say,I personally would like to thank WillieRower and NW Rvrbabe for their hosbitality,
must have been, because she remembered what side of the "bigriver" she was from
I had a great TIME ,the cataraft ride was great (nice boat )River Conditions could have been a tad bit better,
But our boat had our chances , we just missed fish
several long down river float take downs and a few others, kept the day enjoyable, the company was good (even the wanna be Redneck flying the confederate flag).( who for some reason wanted to know about my Monkey
So all in all a good day,and the fact that we survived the whole darn thing,is enough for this Ole-Dawg to hold his tail high.
looking forward to Floatilla III maybe a fall Coho-Chum fest on the Satsop?
I don't think Redneck is allowed back in Oregon for a while.....(He said it was legal in "bama"
Oh ya
WillieRower....Redneck says he's really sorry about the Chicken....he's blameing it on Loomis ...........Os
Oh BTW Rt we did try some Oregon Jigs we just converted ours ,made em look real ugly, even soaked em in B.S......still didn't help, but thanks for the advice anyway....

Re: We want a Floatilla update ASAP
Well Spooled put on a clinic Saturday right at the boat ramp. I had the pleasure of being called his Rod ***** (RB) for the day. I have never felt so used before in all my life. First being called a RB and he smiled about it too. Second, I didn't know whether to land fish in his ultra clean boat or just plain eat off it. Third, he whined and cried when I dropped a smolt on the floor of his boat and it went under the seat. He made me feel like Rodney Dangerfield. NO RESPECT! Fourth, he told me to put the screws to that third fish so that we could keep fishing. I agreed. He said he was feeling bad for the other fishless ifisher's there and that we should move on down river to avoid further embarrassing them. I reluctly agreed because I wanted to see the rest of this beautiful river too. Fifth, he wouldn't let me row his charriot of the water (never rowed in my life). Not even over that little class 2 rapid. Not very sporting of him eh? Just glad for the life jackets! Pretty proud of him though. He handled it very well. Then we got out of the boat to avoid peeing our pants. Ahhhhh. Lastly, he made me put out a quick fish with a squid wrap. Good idea? Truthfully, I thought it might just work. No takers though.
Really, Spooled is a class act on the river. Catching fish he can do (at least Stealhead). Excellent rower. Cleanest boat on the river. Almost to clean. Didn't bottom out once on a virgin run. Nice job. Oh yeah, his truck is really clean too! I felt like I needed to shower before I got in (just kidding). Spooled even gave me his fish since he demanded that I knock mine off at the honey hole. Pretty Cool of him.
Thanks to Chuck and duc for the shrimp. Very cool!! Also thanks for the tips on the river. Especially the advise to not fish at the boat ramp (hee heee heeee).
WARNING!!!! If you fish with Spooled be sure to practice letting two rods at a time out. Otherwise he starts yelling and complaining, YOUR MOVING To SLOW!!! we are almost through the hole. Never mind its to late. Marlon Brando moves faster than you. Dog gone *** ***** (RB to those of you in Washington)
Troy, Special kudos to you my friend and boat ****. Awesome day and good company. Hope we can do this again sometime. I will wear my tux with a white hanky to wipe up the blood in the boat when we give a fish a wood shampoo.
I will be thinking of all of you (not) when I'm in Larson Bay, Alaska fishing Uyak Bay and the Karluk River next week. I would imagine that I will catch just a few more fish than we did at the flotilla. I will give you a full report when I get back.
Thanks again!!

Re: We want a Floatilla update ASAP
A special thanks to Willierower and NW Rvrbabe for being so kind and for putting up with Osprey's whining. I told ya a quick backhand would shut him up, but a wild salmon brew works as well, but it's not as fun. The food was great and the company was too. Fish on Loomis! Fish on!
Tanner, thank you so much for being a generous captain. I don't know what we would have done without the pliers. I will never look at a cat the same again because your cat was beautiful. I think I am in love We'll have to do the Oversize Sturgeon derby sometime this summer.
Thanks to those who contributed to the sandshrimp plethera. Somebody got a little too happy "pumping" for them as we seemed to have an endless supply. Just eat carrots and your vision should slowly come back...lol
Thanks to the Pro-Staff over at VISION for hooking us up with swivels and hooks. The swivels are great and I'm sold on them, and the hooks will be used this summer for sure. Remember folks, this is a friend-operated company, so let's support our friends by at least giving them a chance so check out their products. I think I have Tanner sold on the worms since it looked so pretty on his SILENT APPROACH jig.
We didn't get any of the bigger fish in our boat, but we put a hurting on the trout. I agree, we should have held out up top for a bit, but we were all new to this river.
Thanks to Roy for hoisting the flag as she was saluted on that fine day. You may want to give O's back his monkey because I'm getting blamed for it.
We went to the lower stretch with Ramstrong and it was slower than the afternoon before. A nice sqawfish is all that produced in those few minutes there.
Thanks to hookset for being the on-call moderator. I think he did a good job making sure we Oly boys wouldn't get "flamed" being down on the Santiam and all. Moderate this!
It was great meeting those that I got to meet, and hopefully I made a few new fishing partners. That's fishing....
Hey Willierower, your job for me now is find out all you can about that blonde we saw driving by! See if Sandra knows her and see if she can hook a brotha up!
I'll just use some of RT's B.S. scent on my jigs next time. Any particular recipe better than others?

Re: We want a Floatilla update ASAP
You are more than welcome Osprey, I really enjoyed having you and Redneck, I just wish I could have made the float with ya. Hopefully next time..
I hope you know thats the reason Willies boat didnt land any fish. We all know that I am the true hook setter in this house..lol. But dont worry, next float I will show you "guys" how its done, and then you can go home with some fish yourself.
BTW, to Redneck, I just wanted to let you know, that you are now a proud father. After you left, I woke up to find 9 baby chicks, so I will be expecting the support check in the mail!!
I guess the lock on the coupe couldnt keep you out!!

Ok Alabama Redneck, I have you hooked up the next time your here. I know a woman who likes fishing, and loves to take aim with a gun..lol
I think she might have a hard time getting past your fetish with chickens but Im sure its something she can hopefully get past.
Anyhow, she's looking forward to meeting you.

Re: We want a Floatilla update ASAP
Well duh, What woman isn't interested in meeting me Babe? Hey now, don't go calling me the daddy. I think Osprey wanted to help you out by making sure you have plenty of bait for your traps. I know he was checking out LuLu during dinner. Just look at him and say "stop begging" next time he's down that way. Gotta give me the recipe for the manicotti. We'll definitely have to get you out there next time, but I'm sure Willie didn't want to be embarassed because his wife could outfish the whole floatilla I say Kalama On! or Santiam On! I'm definitely coming back. Great looking river, even with the water up like it was.
So she loves to take aim with a gun eh? Well at least I'll be sleeping safe and sound especially if Osprey comes over to feed the chickens
