Argh! Photography Contest!
I have a new roll of film for a contest. I get 5 subjects of things to shoot, and it has to be in order.
FOr istance, if number 1 doesn't turn out, so be it, no points for that one, and on to two.
Here are the topics. I have until Monday at noon:
Remember, I only have a point and shoot camera with me to use for this...
I am supposed to use my imagination and be creative.
1. RED
2. VIRGIN: (The virgin River flows through the area.)
3. DIXIE: (there were many early Confederate ties with the area, evidence appears on many institutions and flags and cotton was a crop in the area.)
4. BAR: (There are many kinds besides bistros, use your imagination.)
5. HAT(S) (Everywhere you look there is a variety of hats, and look for willing subjects.)
Oh boy! Any great creative ideas? I'm glad Hey Yall and Os are out of town!
Jen
THe Virgin river runs close by here, so I was going to take a pic of a sand bar for the BAR one.
RED? The rock hills are all red, but that is not very original.
VIRGIN? A group of young girls by the river?
An untouched area of the Virgin River? What?
Dixie? A pic of a confed flag or a cotton field? I dunno!
I didn't have to enter this, I just thought it would be fun! Man, I have to get up at 4 tomorrow morning, before the workshops start to do this!

Re: Argh! Photography Contest!
Hi Jen....since you're near the gambling Mecca...there ought to be red NEON lites everywhere. Take a shot of a little girl...or perhaps a nun for the "virgin"...or cut the "IA" off the sign that says "Virginia City"...."dixie'??? How about a "dixie cup" of ice cream from the local grocery store.."Bar"....don't they have those on the slot machines?? And finally "hat"...hmmmm another Casino decoration??? How bout some more creative suggestions from our members here....C'mon folks...even tho this is supposed to be Jennie's homework...let's help her out!! I know there's more creative folks here than myself!!

I would focus on the background of the pics. For instance find a simple red flower with some really cool view in the background.

Re: Argh! Photography Contest!
Not only is there no gambling in St. George. There is no liquor either.
The water is awful too!
It is gorgeous though!
For the RED one, I had BIll Monroe hold his breath for two minutes, and then I took a pic. IT'S GREAT!
With the red canyon hills behind him!
I promised I wouldn't put it on the web though!

Re: Argh! Photography Contest!
Creative ideas? ... If you get a chance Jen, go with some people and drive thru Zion National Park, a few miles east of St. Geo. It's awesome. Some of the formations are astounding and also may be red enough that poor ol' Monroe won't have to hold his breath for pic catagory #1. As for the #2 catagory, the further north you go in Utah the better chance of finding one. ...
Geez, you're going to think I'm trying to scoop you on the landscape descriptions there, but I get so jacked up about traveling thru scenery that I can't help but 'wax nostalgic'. Two summers ago we went from Las Vegas thru St. Geo, Zion, Grand Canyon, Sedona, and on to golf in Scottsdale. The entire area was much more mountainous than I ever imagined - even around Vegas. And it's flatout beautiful in southern Utah and northern Arizona. Way more color contrast and rock sculpture there than here. Not as green of course and no salmon/steelhead, just big trout. If a person were to win the lottery it would be a tough choice to live between L.V., Sedona, or Scottsdale. Since they are so expensive that's why St. G has become one of the most popular retirement towns in the country - it's nice and a short distance to all those places. Check out the golf course on the hill above town. Lucky people there!

Re: Argh! Photography Contest!
Going through Zion sometime this week, RT. I have too! I even considered driving the three hours to the Grand Canyon, but I better not. Have to do the conference things that I came for, but it is SO tempting! I am so close and I always wanted to stand at the edge and just gaze!
The Bill Monroe idea was not mine, but we all thought it was funny enough to give it a go. He will be president next year so I think it will get a couple points, but alot of laughs by the members.
Anyone know Dave Schamps e mail? If so e mail me. I can get all my mail now.
Now, onto VIRGIN. I gotta do this today and get it done!
See ya,
j
