Default Zebco Cardinal 4

Anyone still use these great spinning reels? I have one and I think the rear drag adjustment was great! What do you know Zebco did make a good reel at one time I am looking for an extra spool though Dot do you suppose Earl has one?

Bigstew, Funny you bring this up. I still have one from my very first years of steelheading. Its safely located high on a rod rack in the garage. Yesterday, I found the spool lying broken on the ground. Think my little girls might have been playing a bit of indoor volleyball and are scared to confess. I almost had to hold back tears.
...sooooo, guess I need to find a spare spool, too!

Bigstew,
Last time I checked, Ollie Damon's had some extra spools you could buy. That was the one bad thing about those reels, the spools split. Have the guys at Ollie Damon put line on it for you or do it yourself. Have them give you the run down on how put a layer of twine/string on the spool before to help this problem.Other then that those reel are bulletproof.

The original Cardinals were made by Zebco. They were two-tone green and I believe were the first spinning reels without the drag adjustment on the spool.

It's great hear others talk about these reels.I used to fish with my father-in-law in the 80s on the Rogue and this is all he used.He had several and when he passed away a few years ago I was able to get them before the garage sale (know one wanted "old"spinning reels). I have three 6s and one 4.I was going to give one to a co worker but stopped in at a repair shop and asked what they were worth and they said what ever I wanted. I checked ebay and the 6s were going for around a hundred and the 4s more.I was lucky that my father-in-law also had several extra spools and a bunch of springs.A few years ago I saw the Elk River hatchery manager using a brown and white Zebco Cardinal.

Check with Ollie Damon's if there are any spools out there they will have them. Also I hear that there is a new reel that uses the old C4 guts (design) I was told Ollies has them for sale. While Im on a roll I hear they also sell a replacement metal spool for the C4's?

I just sold my old Cardnial 4 on EBay a couple weeks ago. Same deal, spool split but everthing else was great. Just didn't use it any more. I did see that you can get metal replacement spools on Ebay. Not sure where they come from, but you can get just about anything from spools, to parts kits, to reels on there.
