Default Deschutes Summer run

Does any one know what the prediction is on the summer run for the Deschutes this year? I am trying to nail down some vacation dates and was trying to determine which river to run.

Oh and does anyone know the jet boat schedule or have a website which I can check for this river.

Thank you in advance.

Spoons, from the information I have from the BLM, jet sleds are scheduled to off the Deschutes on the following days: 12-15 July, 26-20 July, 9-12 August, 23-26 August, 6-9 Sept & 20-23 Sept. I would expect a good run of the steelhead this year, but this is only based on the sized of the salmon runs on the Columbia. My main concern this year when it comes to steelhead fishing the lower Deschutes is the glacier milt coming in from the White River.

I'd agree with what Bill said and add that people should be encouraged to keep any hatchery fish from the Deschutes. Stray hatchery steelhead from other rivers are causing major problems with the Deschutes wild stock. Maybe we need signs that say. " if ot's hatchery bonk it on the head"

I would agree that glacial runoff is a huge concern this summer - lets just hope for nice cool weather for as long as possible.

So far the numbers coming over Bonneville are higher now than they were last year. I have a 'feeling' that after talking to a few old-timers that have fished the river for years that this could be a banner year if good fishing conditions previal. They say that in a drought year when the Columbia runs a little lower and a little warmer, that even more strays will enter the lower Deschutes. We'll see. As a matter of fact I'll check it out in about three weeks! I've had hit and miss days early on the Deschutes and you usually have the whole place to yourself if you go at the end of June or early July - the fish will be there....
