Why are we the ones that suffer?
Why is it the jerks are the ones that win out and keep fishing? How many of you would like to go fish the Wind but won't because of all the Jerks. I don't own the river, but I get down there early to get my spot. But I'm the one who leaves because of all the crap that goes on.

Re: Why are we the ones that suffer?
Psst. fishHead 5, secret remedy. High speed run up and down the river while tossing dynamite every 25 yards. Works every time.
All joking aside it just works out that way. The good die young while the bad hang around and fish all day. I have never fished the wind but i have fished the boat ramp at Pacific City and i think a lot of these guys on the wind apparently learned their tactics at the ramp. They are just a bunch of greedy thoughtless air heads. It is a shame that all fishermen are not the true sportsman they think they are. And in case i ruffled a feather this is not aimed at those of you who are decent cooperative fishermen on the wind because iam sure there must be some.

Re: Why are we the ones that suffer?
My solution? Don't fish at places like Wind River,Eagle Creek,Cowlitz River or Pacific City! I like to catch fish as well as the next guy but not that bad. Why put up with the aggravation? It's just not worth it.
Just my .02 worth.

Re: Why are we the ones that suffer?
Bigstew, thats my point. Why do we have to stay home and lose out? It's too bad they don't have a reserve for the game dept like they do for the sheriff's dept. I would work for free. Maybe we could get these places cleaned up some.

Re: Why are we the ones that suffer?
I know but it's just exactly like you said GREED! People figure they are getting something for nothing! I would love to see more game cops and I'm sure there are a lot of people who would volunteer if for no other reason than to have a presence at the area and discourage these slobs. Maybe the places that sell bait should charge a deposit on their styrofoam or carboard containers. Just a thought

Re: Why are we the ones that suffer?
I've seen in some of the other posts that there is video of some of these guys and exactly what they are doing. Does anyone know if the game departments in WA or OR would do anything with the evidence? What about the state or local police agencies? If so, lets get some proof into the hands of those who can LEGALLY do something about it. I'd hate to see someone trying to take these matters into their own hands. Another idea would be just to take the fishing holes back by sheer numbers. If during that scheduled clean-up everyone were to go fishing and constantly "suggest" to those screwing up that they should stop, most will either leave or clean up their act. Granted there will be a few who are just too dumb to do either, but let's see how much more they do when a video camera gets whipped out. A lot of the people doing this may just not know any better due to either lack of interest or lack of education. Given the numbers that are commiting to this, I'm sure a lot of them will learn quickly...one way or another. If the numbers tactic works, we do it again. A couple of the big offenders off of the river may be just the start that is needed. Just my nickel or so worth.

Re: Why are we the ones that suffer?
I spent last night at the Wind. Everyone was releasing the fowl hooked fish, but there was some unfriendly people fishing. Some folks were nice, but I had a couple guys who were going to take my spot when I turned around to rebait my hook. Instead they just squezed in and stuck their rod in my face. There were no words, but even with my effort to be friendly, I felt they just as well push me out of my spot.

Re: Why are we the ones that suffer?
Right on Bigstew! I'd much rather worship at the church of the bent rod than the church of greed.
If any of you think of confronting these guys think again. It's bad enough that they are displaying their moral and genetic deficiencies but they might be packing too. It would really suck if someone got shot or assaulted for doing the right thing.
This problem is widespread as Bigstew stated above. If you read the closure areas for salmon in the fishing regs you can get a glimpse of the former problem areas that got closed. Unfortunately the authorities view a nuisance area as a place to close, not a place to enforce sportsmanship and fair play.
They may react the same way to this place if enough people complain.
As the thread started out saying, the legit fishers suffer when the hole closes and the airheads move on to the next church of greed.
If this aggravates you call the TIPS hotline. Just remember the reaction is almost always to close the spot.

Re: Why are we the ones that suffer?
Pilar,
You are so right about the reaction to close. About 16 years ago a friend and I bought 3.5 acres wind river frontage in the area and "secret falls" that is being discussed as a problem. The property runs down to the river, across , and up the other (east) side approx. 80ft. As my fishing/investing interests shifted to Alaska, my friend bought my share several years ago and has built a home and lives there year round. He has informed me that he is going to do everything in his power to see this area closed again, (shepherds falls to the high bridge) and I am in support of this. He doesn't even fish anymore but he (and I) are in shock at the transformation from this beautiful pristine setting to the meat factory, slaughter house, anything-goes nightmare it has become.
The only alternative would be strict enforcement and that isn't likely.

Re: Why are we the ones that suffer?
Hey...thanx for the "Hot tip" on the Wind River...I'll be sure to stay away from there. It's hard to believe people wnat fish bad enough to go through all the BS. Fo me...I'd rather sit in my boat with no-one around..and not catch ANY fish than deal with with this kind of stuff. Too much to be said for finding your own good spot. You can have it!!
