Default Does the name go with the boat?

Wanted an opinion from the professionals. Now that the Salmonator no longer graces my driveway, would it be improper for me to give my next boat the same name? My guess would be to give her a new name or at least SalmonatorII. So which is it???

How about "JOE'SSALMONATORFISHSLAYINTACKLEBUSTINBLOODYMESSHE LPMECLEANMYBOATANDMAYBESPRINGFORSOMEGASTOOYOULOOSE RS"???

That is if you get a new one with a 60' beam of course so you have room for it all!

But, "SALMONATOR II" sounds good to me!

Go get 'em Joe!

Hey Joe. New boat, call it whatever you want. If you buy a used boat and it has a name you're stuck with it. It is widely considered bad luck to change the name once given.

What kind of boat did you buy?

Pilar, haven't found the one with a fishy aura about it yet. Kwicky, I believe you were in my boat when that fabled monster bullhead hit. Maybe I should leave you out next time so it won't happen again? FM,

You crack me up!

How about: Slamanator
Or...
late for dinner....
TARGET
or...
Family Float...
Mom's Taxi...
II Fish...

What kind of boat did you buy?

If you are going Halibut fishing next week you should DEFINATELY give it a real trial run. At least 30 miles non stop to check capacity of the fuel system and to check for any engine issues. I would hate to hear of any issues you had to face out on ol' big blue.

Let us all know and post a pic. Maybe we will see you out there.

Dry tops and tight lines....

Mr. Fisherman

p.s. Did you sell your old boat?

Mr. F, Salmonator1 has gone bye bye. She now resides in the Reedsport area. I haven't found one I like yet although I was thinking about looking at an older 23' Trophy I found up in Seattle. The only problem is the 225 horse yamaha that burns 15 gph

This is the ceremony we used to rename my Uncle's boat. It's a doozy!

Captain: "Bless the (old boat name). We now allow this name to go to the everlasting sea. Thank you for your service and goodbye. (Old boat name) we toast your service."
Any time during the ceremony when "we toast your service" is said all guests must take a drink.
All: "We toast your service!"
First Mate: "Hail Poseidon! We seek your benevolence upon this vessel, now to be known as (new boat name)."
The first mate steps forward, pours some wine on the bow of (new boat name) then pours some wine into the water then says, "Poseidon and (new boat name), I toast you."

All: "O! Poseidon, you spirit god of waters great and small, on this vessel, by your grace, allow these sons and daughters all, to pass from port of hailing to their port of call, and on these sailing subjects make your gentle blessings fall."
All step forward, pour some wine on the bow of the (new boat name), then pour some wine into the water, then all together say "Poseidon and (new boat name) we toast you."

Captain: "Hail! Aeolus! We seek your benevolence upon this vessel, now to be known as (new boat name)."
The captain steps forward, pours some wine on the bow then takes a sip of wine and spits it into the wind then says:
"Aeolus and (new boat name), I toast you."

All: "Aeolus, whose mighty hand doth charge the wind, to this vessel gentle zephyrs send, and we who sail within will bend our heads in awe and tribute without end."
All step forward, pour some wine on the bow of (new boat name), then take a sip of wine and spit it into the wind, then say together, "Aeolus and (new boat name), we toast you."

All: A separate toast is then said to each of the following deities:
(work your way around your gathered group of friends, each guest taking their turn with a god listed below. If one is missed pronounced the god must be re-toasted)
Achelous, the river god, we toast you!
Alcyone, mother of Halcyone days, we toast you!
Amphitrite, bride of Poseidon, we toast you!
Calypso, goddess of immortality, we toast you!
Caminae, river water spirits, we toast you!
Ceasg, mother of all sea captains, we toast you!
Ceto, mother of the sirens, we toast you!
Charybdis, goddess of the whirlpools, we toast you!
Domnu, goddess of the deep, we toast you!
Doris, goddess of the waters, we toast you!
Ea sea god, we toast you!
Eurynome, mother of the sea, we toast you!
Mama Cocha, source of all sea food, we toast you!
Moruadh, Irish sea maiden, we toast you!
Naiades, water nymphs of rivers and lakes, we toast you!
Nixies, water spirits of the rivers, we toast you!
Ningyo, sea goddess of youth and beauty, we toast you!
Nyai Loro Kidul, goddess of the south seas, we toast you!
Oceanus, father of all rivers, we toast you!
Olokur, owner of the sea, we toast you!
Panope, who assists sailors, we toast you!
Sirens, servants of Persephone, we are deaf to you!
Thalassa, creator of all sea life, we toast you!
Triton, sea god of music, we toast you!
Tien-Hou, goddess who finds sailors in danger, we toast you!
Undine, female water spirits, we toast you!
Vatea, creator of Tahiti, we toast you!
Vallamo, goddess of the waves, we toast you!
Yemana, Holy Queen of the Sea, we toast you!
Yolkai Estsan, goddess of the ocean dawn, we toast you!
- at this time feel free to insert as many other gods/goddesses as you feel like.

A few final but extremely important notes: This ceremony has been tested and proven to remove all bad luck associated with renaming a vessel. Here are some key ingredients...

a recently purchased used boat,
pick a hopefully sunny day,
invite lots of good friends (the more the better),
there need to be enough cocktails so that every one has one at all times during the ceremony (but have them bring their own),
a great spread of munchies, snacks and goodies (these are supplied by the captain and first mate), and finally,
if any one runs out of their drink, the ceremony must come to a stop until all have refilled their glass!!
Best of luck with your new boat and enjoy!

Hi Joe. Need another boat name, ay? And a bigwater boat at that. Ahhhhhhhh ....

- Slammingator

- Gator Rader

- Salmonhater

- "F**K OFF"

- Pretty In Pink (although I heard Pilar is
thinking about that one)

- GET OFF MY LINES - NOW!

- Peeler Feeler

- YO, I Catch Feesh For U

- "SURE SKUNK GUIDE SERVICE"

And if you decide to skip buying another big boat and just use your 16 footer:

- "IT MAY BE SMALL, BUT I KNOW HOW TO USE IT"
