Has any one used the Fishin' Buddy Portable units by Bottom line?

Yup. I've got one I use on my smokercraft. I mainly use it for depth when trolling on the coast in the fall. Nothing fancy but gets the job done. The C batteries will last 40 to 50 hours.

I have one I used to use on my db. Worked OK, used it mainly as a depth finder when trolling.

Never had total confidence in the fishfinder part, it seemed to work OK but, the cone angle is small, 9 degrees, so unless you have some depth you're looking at a very small patch of water.

The side finder was kind of interesting, but I never noticed too much of a correlation between seeing fish and catching fish, so it was more of confidence thing to think you weren't trolling over empty water.

I did a lot of research and the majority of people said that the Fishin Buddy was ok and that the sidefinder was useless. I came to the conclusion that PiranhaMAX was a much superior unit for about the same price and in some instances cheaper. I got mine for $99 from Amazon. I have yet to use mine but I will hopefully have a detailed review at the end of the month. I am spending 7 days down in Southern Oregon on Lake of the Woods, and Fish lake.

I have the fishn Buddy by bottomline, and it works alright. Not very detailed and the sideview isn't that helpful. I use it on my inflatable boat and I use it monitor depth and temperature. I'm glad I have it but it isn't the best fishfinder.
