Default Question on a Perko

I have a new Alumaweld 19' Sportjet, it has one battery installed, but with the dual battery Perko switch factory installed and ready for a 2nd battery. Given no extra doghouse space I need to install the 2nd battery externally in a batt box. Which I have.

Before I pull the cover and dig into this,,,,,My question is ; Is installing the batt cables to the Perko pretty straight forward or is it something I should have done by Pro's? I am pretty good at most of this stuff, just have never done it.

Thanks

It is not complicated. Here is a source for a diagram and fairly simple instructions on how to do it.

Lots of luck.

Not sure where your switch is mounted, but watch out for the terminals on the back of the switch. They come really close to being even with the back of the switch body. If you are mounting against the aluminum, you want to be extra sure these don't come in to contact with the hull.

I took mine up to TAP Plastics and had them make a plastic backing plate for extra insurance against making contact with the hull.

You also need to watch the mounting bolts. I ran mine through vacuum tubing. If a terminal touches a through-bolt that is touching the hull, you could also have a fire. The tubing provides some insulation.

Good luck
