Lightbulb nearshore towing lanes

Hey, learned a new thing today. There are towing lanes defined for barge traffic from Washington down to San Fran. This is a cooperative effort between the crabbers and the barge guys so they aren't getting tangled up. I've seen car carriers using them as well.

Anyways, here's an online copy of the 2005 charts: http://graysharbor.wsu.edu/marine/do...2005_11_10.pdf

It changes annually or even more often so use at your own peril. I am getting the newer info sent to me. I will figure out how to get it to ya'll when it arrives so that we don't overwhelm the office.

WSU extension is coordinating it. OSU used to do it and stopped back in the 90's.

John, Thanks for the post. If we pull an overnighter, at least we can make sure we don't set up camp in those lanes!

Yeah Jerry, it looks like out of Newport about 45nm-ish there is another lane. I gather from reading this and other articles that they use the closer in route in the nicer months to save fuel.

I don't know how this new info changes anything that I currently do. It is fun to learn though. One more bit o' knowledge to help make sense of what I am seeing. Too bad the chinook wouldn't publish their route. I'll get you my pretties!
