Default Prepping Stainless steel for paint

I just purchased a home built 4 leg seat pedestal made from SS, have removed all the old paint (was not primed) & am needing to know what steps to get it ready for paint that will last almost forever. Thanks in advance Jim

Paint needs a profile to adhere to. Sandblasting is the best way to do that. Two coats of 2 part epoxy primer and a poly urethane top coat works.

Powder coat in a shop is really nice.

You can prep the surface by sanding, but SSPC 10 near white sand blast is the best prep. Brushing will leave brush marks, spray is prettier.

Do you really want to paint it?
