Default Has anyone heard of a 44 caliber shotgun?

A person I know has a H and R shotgun in 44 caliber and would like to know about it and worth. He thinks it is from the '20's. Thanks for any help you can provide.

Harrington & Richards made a shotgun around 1901 that was marked 44 caliber. It should chamber a .410 shot shell. That's all I know about it.

And fer Gawd's sake, DO NOT fire this gun with any ammo untill you have it checked out by a competent gunsmith.

Thanks for the reply and I don't think he has any intention of firing it. He is close to 90.

There are several H&R forums that can probably get you more information on values. Some of the groups are real fanatics about their H&R pistols, single shot rifles & shotguns, etc.. These folks seldom follow Blue Book values, only what they need for their collection...
Try a google search "H&R Forums".

SIDE NOTE:
Iver Johnson (1905-1956) also made a .44 cal rifle (smooth bore) as well as .45 cal., 12mm and 14 mm in the same model series as their shotguns which came in 10, 12, 16, 20, 24, 28, 32 and .410 gauges.
