New Member-Tuna Anyone?
Ok, I have been thinking of going Tuna fishing on my own boat for the last couple years. I live in Ferndale Wa. and been fishing the San Juans, and the West Coast of Vancouver Island since 91. So, a couple weeks ago I am out in the San Juans for the weekend, and run into Tower Todd from Snohomish at Sucia Island and find out he had his TR-1 installed the day after mine. Then I see the outrigger brackets on his Albemarle and think "oh ya this guy goes offshore". That was all I needed to hear and after a little Tuna talk I got that little nudge along with some incentive to give it a go. THANKS TODD! I am looking forward to chatting with you all to gain all the knowledge I can for the do it on your own Tuna gig. I have fished down in Cabo many times, but I'm sure you all know it's a different game up here on your own boat. I will have to gear up for a few more rods and reels, along with the start of another tackle box $$$. (do i really want to do this) just kidding! It will be a 240 mile drive to Westport from Ferndale, and a whole new adventure launching and running across the bar (i have not done it) and out X amount of miles to search for Tuna, so I will ask for any input from this awesome board for help. I have a Whaler 26 Conquest with 200 Opti's and hold 200 gallons of fuel. Again, Thanks Todd (look what you are gettin me into). I will be attending the seminar with Randy Ratcliff in Edmonds tonite, his timing is perfect.

Good for you.
I think you will find Randy entertaining and informative. I bet La Push is a lot closer and there are some that fish tuna out of La Push when the time is right.
Westport is great and the bar demands respect but you'll do well particularly if you run with the pack. Let us all know when you plan an outing and perhaps our group's timing will coincide. I don't take my boat for tuna but sometimes crew for some buddies that run out of Westport. I also keep my ear to the pavement for upcoming possible tuna runs. More wingmen are always a good thing.
Get 'em bloody!

Mark,
It was real nice to meet you and look forward to getting you out for a tuna run. I'll look for you tonight at the tuna talk. Welcome aboard the Salty Dogs Board!

Re: New Member-Tuna Anyone?
Welcome, WhalerOne. You'll love the tuna. I fish out of La Push, because I'm very familiar with the area and like not having a bar to plan around. Wesport will be closer for you time wise. To get to LP you'll either have to take the ferry or drive around the Sound. Having said that, I drive right by Westport on my way to LP, which adds a couple of hours. Or, some fish off the west coast of VI for tuna, also. If you're already there, it may make sense for you.
This shouldn't really cost you all that much money. It's the time and sleep you'll miss the most.

Re: New Member-Tuna Anyone?
I'm going to try and make it to the meeting tonight too. I went out last year, for the first time, on Chum Bucket's boat. A few weeks later, I went on my own boat and was Hooked for good. Over the winter, I bought two new boats and more gear than I know what to do with. The same thing has happend to most of the people on this board to some extent.
