Hit somthing and shot my old 888 any good places to get a reliable drive?

I have $650 saved and the best price I can find for a reliable bottom end for my old 888 is $1200 www.ebasicpower.com PART# GLM18100 any one know of
a better price? or a go to guy that builds drives that I can trust that wont kill my pocket book.????..:frown:

Ok I guess I owe an explanation, we were just kicking along to the south pile for a little buts at about 18mph, dodging pots the whole way....well i hear just the slightest "DONK" and that was it.....no other sounds 25 min later we pull up on the pile and drop lines...bring up 4 of the Illegal red devil fish (yellow eyes) and promptly sent them back to Davey Jones with all hopes for there survival. We knew we needed to move to get out of this hidden haven of extinct yellow eyes, so we pull up and start SW towards the pebble beds then I hears it....the dreaded thumping of a skipping gear...I apologize to the crew and slap the first mate for GP's and we runner in (kept her at a cool 11mph) The VADA held together all the way back and even changed gears at the ramp. but she gave up the ghost when I flushed the motor....(shes a good ol girl) and deserves a new bottom...soooooooooo now you know.

Give Seaway Marine in Seattle a call. They may have a used drive and the price is almost always right. Or if you want to try to fix it they will have the parts. These guys have saved my butt a few times.

Be ready with serial number and year if you know it.

Shipping is no big deal UPS ground or your choice. An example of the right price is a replacement gimbal housing for 'Pilar'. Retail was $750 for the housing only, no bearings, seals or bellows. I paid $200 and got all bearings, including a gimbal bearing. It turned out to be the wrong model gimbal so they took it back, paid for shipping and mailed the correct part the same day. That one was NOS (New old Stock) still shrinkwrapped in the Mercruiser box and also had all bearings and seals.

There are other salvage yards but your mileage may vary. You can buy new drives online for about $3000. Check for warranty and google the company to look for negative comments.

I gave them a call and Im going to keep a weather eye to for a deal whilst saving the rest of the money up. but they came in just under most... shipping might be the deciding factor... but nice people and they definitely know their business ....
