Default Cut Pad on Lucy

My wife was playing with the dog in the backyard when the dog started leaving a blood trail. She lacerated a pad on something, quite deeply, and needed a bunch of stitches, internal and external.

My wife couldn't find what the dog stepped on.

Any advice on how to get a 10 month old dog to take it easy and let the damn thing heal? She blew out all the stitches the first day and bled through her bandages, so she went back for a new set. Should I get some sedatives?

How long would you wait before getting back to any real training? We can still work obedience and hold and FF, but I want to get back to working marks as soon as I can.

This Is somthing that Ive had happen to my lab I started putting super glue on it. and it worked. I also would apply a lot of super glue to his pads before a hunter. It just tuffens them up.

Super glue will work but make sure the wound is clean. You don't want an infection. Get a sedative and leave her on it for a week locked in a crate. Sounds bad but it's the fastest way to recover. As far as training goes I be in the water before the land and it would be at least a week before that. Best advice is listen to the vet and get the sedatives.

Kurt, let her heal up before anymore training. Right now try and keep her calm and work on house obedience keeping her fairly inactive. What you've already taught her won't be lost by inactivity for a week or so. A lost week now is better than a month or two down the road while she's trying to recover from an infection. She'll be fine.

Been there, done that - with Springers. Get some sedatives from the vet and a plastic cone to keep the dog from licking/chewing on it. It's tough to keep a high energy dog bottled up but if you can keep 'em slowed down from three days to a week it will give the wound a good head start. Good luck and I hope your pup heals up well.
