Young and angry. Damn that rap music!
ps. make sure you get a huge subwoofer. The whales in the ocean really dig it!

Re: boat stereo and speakers
I like the ones that break really fast so you can't use them.
Then... OUCH! You are forced to listen to the beautiful sounds of the ocean, the river, the birds... your friends voice and the outdoors!
I'm sorry, I'm not into music on the water, and I am a musician!
Would be nice sometimes though... Like if you were anchored somewhere for a dinner party! Get out the grill, slap on some salmon and some Schubert!

Re: boat stereo and speakers
boater,
Pioneer makes a marine line of decks and speakers that seem to be of good quality.
My personal preferene is JL audio for speakers.
An amp in a boat? Ive only seen that once and it was in one of those $50,000 dollar waste of money ski boats. If you do put in amp in your boat make sure you mount so you can remove it. And put it some place that doesnt get wet or is prone to condesation. Oh yea, Dont buy anything but Pheonix Gold.
Get an mp3 player instead of a CD player. You an put over 100 songs on one disc. Plus they play regular CDs

Re: boat stereo and speakers
Boater, I vote for the Bose 151 speakers. I have had my set for a year and a half and they still rock. Jensen makes a decent cassette/radio for around $100. Whatever you do dont put a CD player in your boat, it wont last.
The Bose 151's are at Frys. The display is a fishtank with a speaker in it. I laughed when I saw this but it is no joke, they are waterproof and bullet proof. Add a 5 year unconditional warranty and it's a no brainer.
It was a challenge finding a spot for them on my boat as they are a box shape. I have Plywood panels and I mounted them flush. It really doesn't matter where they are on the boat as the sound is well dispersed.
Your stereo should be removable and in a sheltered location. They make a mounting bezel with a snap on lid to protect the stereo from water, I recommend it. Solder all connections as the water (salt especially) will make short work of any taped twisted wire splices.
I can't imagine a Columbia River bar crossing without 'Ride of the Valkyries' by Wagner blasting on my stereo...... Or a peeler burning line while 'Bad to the bone' by lonesome george is blaring .... Just my 0.02

Re: boat stereo and speakers
Salmon and steelies like "AC/DC". Don't ask me why...but we used to have the radio on while anchor fishing in the Columbia....and whenever AC/DC played...we hooked fish. Maybe it's time to buy an AC/DC CD?? Go figure!!

Re: boat stereo and speakers
Be sure you have good headphones for your passengers/crew when you're anchored up next to me. Your selection in music is not necessarily appealing to everyone around you. Also, you should run two batteries so you can get back to the dock without a tow.
